This was something that was mentioned to me a little while back, but I've seen that it's been brought up again...
Basically I received a PM from a staff member at .net about our members 'poaching' other members from .net using their PM system, by sending people messages saying everyone was here and to sign up on 306oc, or something to that effect. I have a rough idea who it might have been, though they haven't said names. I'm not sure if this is still going on or was something in the last couple of months. Anyway, just wanted to say to be wary of sending personal information, and that if you are recommending for friends to sign up to our site, please don't do it via .net. If you know them or have them on facebook then that's great, the more the merrier
And also please let's keep the bitching over there to a minimum (or even better, let's have none at all). Let them have their club, we'll have ours, and at the end of the day we're all 306 enthusiasts (i.e. crazy people who seem to have an affinity for an old, rusting, cheap French hatchback) so do your best to ignore the club politics and remember what you're here for.
Cheers

if this is in light of what happened earlier today in .nets chatbox, i can say sorry for causing any "agro" but i wasnt trolling bitching or anything just generally asking about a few aspects of .net (which they refused to answer anyway)
yeah agreed try to ignore club politics but when ive spent good hard earned on that club and theyve almost put 2 fingers up at me and others for doing so then of course ill go looking for answers
if its in light of what niall had said in a thread then lets burn him at a stake!
not really nail, we love you and personally wholeheartedly agree with what you said just wasnt online before kylie locked it

It's not actually anything to do with today's "discussions", I've only heard about them briefly as I wasn't online. At the end of the day it's up to you guys what you say on other forums, and you're fully entitled to ask about your money which you've put into the club. I'll happily explain what your donations have brought about with this club and what we plan to do in future (in part, anyway, we still have to have some 'ness).
I just thought it would be best to point out that staff over there are aware of who is doing and saying what, even via PM, so please refrain from telling people about this site over there

As a spectator of all this, i personally am not aware of any pm'ing and it was bought up by a member over there, Kyle, if you know him, and a few others kind of agreed with him.
There was a bit of bitching from "our" side which was pretty immature, the root of the entire conversation was Flynn, surprise surprise.
But no, there are a lot of mature members over here, no kids and such, as Scott says, he has it spot on, theres no point bringing this forum down with bad rep.

Phil, unfortunately in most forums private messages are stored as plain text, rather than hashed like your passwords, which effectively means that if myself or Fooby were so inclined, we would be able to view PMs. However, neither of us have any interest in viewing the content of our members PMs (they are, after all 'private messages'). Also note that we have to physically access them through the database i.e. not through the frontend/main site.
Rest assured, we will not be reading your PMs. We have no reason to do so, we don't want to, and we respect your privacy.
I haven't seen any comments by Kyle to be honest, I only glossed over one thread in particular after it was brought to my attention, so I'm not sure what's been said about that. Cheers though ginge

just for anyone interested dan says that they have an average of 7-8 cs package purchasers a month, thats renewal and new members
so at 6.50 each thats (7x12)x6.50 which is 540 ish
a few traders(kris b and jdm?) at 70 a year, another 140
plus no idea what he gets for advertising and sponsors
dan also mentions there is a hosting fee of £60 a month which totals 720 expendature with 680 coming in from members
thats based on what dan said in the chatbox earlier
personally ive been told (from source) that there was approx 300 cs purchasers as oppsed to the 80 that dan had said
quick calcs say that changes the income to just shy of £2k let alone the sponsors and advertising
obviously as i didnt get a straight answer we cant know for sure but i was digging for my own peice of mind
personally ive spent £13 on 2 years membership over there and put a furter £15 towards a "server upgrade"
and feel pretty fobbed off but ah well thats life

I did get a bit out of my pram earlier in that thread but I haven't sent a pm on .net in ages.
Only reason I got shitty was because of springs comment which I thought was totally uncalled for especially seeing as he clearly thought this yet still had the front to come camping!
That forum has gone seriously downhill and I've now decided I won't use it anymore so I won't be poaching any members! If they want to come over here, there welcome! More the merrier.

I think just wait untill FCS - who ever is there will be a 306/french enthusiast, they'll see the stand, the size of our group and the banners. It will attract itself

I said this in that thread. I think when fcs rolls around, this will be forgotten about once everyone starts bumping into people they haven't seen in ages and start having a chat.

They read PM's over there??....thats really not on, they should be private as the title suggests! I certainly didn't 'poach' anyone by pm but I have sent some fairly private PMs on there a while ago!!

Only reason there doing it is because of the loss of regular members. Was it just me that noticed the changes that were made when OC arrived? Coincidence much?

Ive mentioned the forum in a couple pm's because people have pm'ed me for pumps etc, and ive simply said im not using the forum much any more and its easier to get hold of me over here...nothing illegal about doing that, so no doubt they have been reading my pm's as foxy hates me for whatever reasons.

I've also paid sellers fees and CS fees on .net, won't be doing it again. He wanted me to set myself up as a business when I was on about doing carbon bits for people. Given the profit margin I had, i'd have had to have made about £500 worth of sales just to break even after the trade fees, not to mention countless hours doing the bloody work. No thanks.
Here on the other hand it was a case off "like the way it's going, here's a few quid to help thing develop". Much better way of going about it tbh. Ash started charging on gti6.com and the place died very quickly. I men FFS, what's the point in having a project thread when the only people who can reply are the five or so paid members? Way to kill a forum...
As for the reading of PM's, pretty sure privacy disclaimers say stuff along the lines of the owners being held responsible for stuff that's said even by PM as its their site so its monitored to prevent dodgy goings on. Not as extreme as this but say someone said something potentially libellous, the owner would be held accountable as its his site.
