And lol, yeah, just a light impact....was only cat D!! I broke it for parts, theres parts of it all over this forum now lol and the engine is now in my car. Smile

I've gotta try and get a vid of mine under load, pre-boost, with a slightly leaky EGR blank, you'd be horrified. lol

Do you get a sooty arse too? I'm struggling to find a boost leak on mine, and it smokes a bit on full throttle at the top end. Goes very well though (Work-mate in an E9* 320d estate was very surprised! - Told him he needs a remap).

Cloth/wire brush and carb cleaner should do it mate. I just got In there with a rag and wiped clean All the black gunk but it's up to you as long as it's clean Smile

Sooty arse has a lot to do with the exhaust imo. Straight through flush with bumper - yes, literally first time after it was washed there'd be soot specs! Cant even drive dry the car or the drying towel got sooty after. Standard system with tip slightly out of bumper - not so much, similar level of smoke, but that extra bit seems to help it avoid the car. Takes a lot longer for a noticeable coal buildup.

Its a pain to clean as well, its kinda sticky after mixing with rain and road grime! So glad I don't have to clean veg of the arse end of an XUD lol.

It should be easy to spot the a boost leak due to the breather oil that sprays everywhere. There's so many on HDi's despite only having one boost pipe lol. Small siilcone from turbo usually leaks. Small silicon to inlet usually leaks. Inlet elbow usually leaks. EGR pipe or blank occasionally leaks. But bare in mind my experience is on high milers that haven't been well looked after. If you genuinely cant find a leak and still have the EGR, its possible that that's stuck open a bit.

The problem with fixing one boost leak is you just push it to the next weak point.

This is about 200 miles of abuse, plenty of coaled cyclists and cut-uppers in that time and it's still clean... I'll try and get a vid through the rear window tomorrow.

How? I just made a mess and ended up spreading oily, EGR shite literally everywhere, all over the garage, tools, patio, door handles, car, etc etc. Dodgy lol

Aha I won't deny it makes a mess but at least I got most out the egr [FACE WITH TEARS OF JOY] mine had all sorts wrote in gunk thanks to Mr ozonehostile. Doesn't come off to easy either [FACE WITH TEARS OF JOY] and shows up real well on moonstone :p

What is the benefit of an EGR blank? My car is fairly standard and being new to tuning a 306 I've only done a De cat so far, I used to own a few modified mk4 escort 3i's they were easy to play with

The benefit is stopping soot mixing with breather oil and causing a horrible sticky restrictive mess in the inlet...

But tbh its such a pain to do on the 306 its not really worth it unless its leaking (yours isn't, exhaust would be smokier!) or you have have the engine out to do other work imo.

Just blank the EGR pipe where it joins the inlet elbow to disable it completely - cheap and easy to do, without the hassle of removing the complete EGR which is difficult with the engine in situ on a 306 due to the complete lack of access.

Depending how well your EGR is working, you'll potentially increase MPG as well as stopping so much s**t getting into the inlet - think I gained 3-4 MPG on my old 306 when I did this.

Well, this is a pretty poor effort but the best I could do lol.

If you look at the lower right of the window you can see the smoke. And at some points a lingering cloud, particularly the lorry overtake. I don't think its an unreasonable amount tbh...
