I had this on my phase 1, went scrap yard, got a few relays out of another 306, and it's been fine ever since
3 x Peugeot owner.

That's what I'm going to do but was just checking if anyone knew of any wires shorting out causing it to melt or if it was just a common relay problem with them

Wires shorting are hugely unlikely to cause the relay to melt. Its more likely to the the copper coils in the electro-magnet dicking up and over heating. As said, get a new relay, keep an eye on it, and that should sort it
