lh_4827's HDi project
#1
been on here a while, and had 2 306's in that time.

initially, i had a Ph2 silver DTurbo '98

[Image: 31240_10150208283275364_808325363_129244...8229_n.jpg]

it started out life totally standard and was tuned within a few weeks, upto 99.1bhp at the wheels, 116 at the fly

it went it for its first MOT under my ownership, and failed Sad on a bit of cancer/rot/holiness..

[Image: 61195_10150270633675364_808325363_146961...5144_n.jpg]

the car was set to be used as a course closing car, on a road rally in church stretton in february this year and got a bit of TLC to get it cleaned up a bit..

[Image: 166620_10150394552960364_808325363_16926...7722_n.jpg]

this was all in vain however, as the car ended up looking like this when it finished:

[Image: 182061_10150406264470364_808325363_17112...3542_n.jpg]

[Image: 180677_10150414635315364_808325363_17222...5869_n.jpg]

[Image: 184763_10150414635935364_808325363_17222...8921_n.jpg]

[Image: 182985_10150414636150364_808325363_17222...7192_n.jpg]

[Image: 184777_10150414636005364_808325363_17222...0668_n.jpg]

so it needed a replacement

in comes the HDi..

black 5 door HDi, picked up from Taunton, Bristol, for the nice sum of £645. there was no MOT on the car, and had 2 months tax.
its first MOT it passed, with only a few advisories, like the rear wiper arm missing, and tyre wear getting close to the limit.

[Image: 223253_10150581573645364_808325363_18236...5062_n.jpg]

followed rapidly by a remap from Pro-Steve for 120bhp, then an FMIC conversion:

mostly stainless steel tubing, apart from the 406 bottom pipe.

also replaced the centre section of the exhaust for one with no boxes, which came from my old 306. waiting for On-line autosport of lichfield to get the HDI decats in, as i know the owner, so can get a real good deal on it..

then came a change of headlights, to a set of angels:

finally got around to fitting my MBC and the car is now boosting to 24psi, and the clutch is beginning to slip a bit.

also fitted a seriously cheap sub and amp setup. i dont like hearing stupid levels of bass from other peoples cars, and i think it distorts the sound way too much when bass levels are high, but on the same bat, my alpine speakers and HU were struggling with Bass at higher volumes..
so i acquired a home cinema Sub that was going to be used in the house to start with, and acquired a Mutant NW280SP amplifier for £15 inc postage. wiring kit was another £10 and thats all of the associated costs involved lol. as the amp is relatively low power, the sub isnt driven hard, and picks up the slack that the speakers now have after i turned down the bass that they are fed.. sounds the tits, and isnt too offensive to others around me.. i'll put up a photo when i can be arsed to go to the car..

current thoughts and future ideas:

new clutch - Done
De-DPF - Done
GE shortshift - Done
uprated gear linkages: [url]http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320731035585&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT - Done
Braided brake lines - unsure on this one.. might do hydro handbrake for autotesting if this becomes a competition car..
'6 brakes -Done
stage 2 remap from Pro_steve - Done
De-Wiper - Done
Tablet install - Done
leather interior - Done

My alpine HU has got a USB interface, but for ages its been located in a not so convenient place, inside the centre console, because it fell in there one day and i couldnt be bothered to get it back out..

had a USB cable knocking around for a while, which is for screwing into a PC case but i thought it'd do well in the car:

take 1 handbrake cover and cut a hole in it, about the size of a USB port. make the holes for the screws and you end up with this:

which looks like this in the car:

Also decided it was time to give my Android tablet a better place to live, other than the windscreen:

stripped down the windscreen mount and chopped some bits off and resorted to hot glue gunning it into place, and **** me if it wont come off now.. also gave me much more room to play with behind the screen cable management wise.. the 12v charger for it is soldered and hardwired into the car on an ignition live, so it will charge whenever the car is in use..

it has GPS and Bluetooth, which makes for a perfect Satnav and OBD interface, also is a great media player, and a funky looking clock lol..

Also decided to paint the engine cover:

its an engine cover, so i wasn't fussed about prepping it fully before anyone criticizes the shitty job i did on it.. its going to be covered in oil and shit soon enough, and its having some lopped off for the IC pipes when i buy a hacksaw..

new things that went on...
quickshift:

new rear brakes:

new clutch:

New gear linkages:

and now i have decided i was going to paint the amplifier.. i've bought a 4 channel amp to drive all the speakers, and i think that the existing Mutant amp will still be used for the sub..

How does your intake work for you there? Not too much crap sucked up when you're thrashing it through puddles?

and all covered up to stop some thieving shit getting some ideas..

had a flag from a band knocking around the flat, but it was a bit too shitty condition to put up properly, so i thought the parcel shelf would be a decent enough place for it.

you'd think so, but its drivers side, most puddles are on the passenger side.. if it does get sucked up, there is a shit load of pipe work and bends for it to settle in. its been like that for 3/4 months because i cracked the bumper badly, and the top of the pipe where it joins the filter is totally clean, even the filter is spotless.

the android app is called Torque. there is a BlueTooth adapter on the OBD port, and it feeds realtime data to the screen. will also work with your android phone reasonably well. can read and clear codes too.

adapter was £30 and the app was £2.79 or something like that

red painted calipers, also diagnosed a few annoying squeaks, and took off and rebuilt the exhaust.. after the customary drive round the block with no backbox on.. how the hell the straight through guys put up with that din i dont know.. i thought USGS were going to register an earthquake off the sound of it alone...

so i set off to the on-line autosport warehouse on Friday night to do a bit of work to a friends car ready for a road rally tonight and replace my handbrake cables for the MOT.. what actually ended up happening over 2 days was this:

the car was jacked up to have a look at the drivers side driveshaft, where it entered the speedo drive housing, as the speedo didnt work.

i needed to put one of these into the housing..

then we found a set of these which i had had ordered in from germany. i havent paid for them yet, but the owner (friends dad) said i can fit them anyway, and pay him when i can:

the old struts were a bit minging, and were a total slag to get out:

they looked well sexy once built:

and just as good on the car:

we finally got round to looking at the speedo too, and found this in the speedo housing:

no wonder it didnt f*cking work..

also got round to the handbrake cables, but thats boring lol.

friday night we started at about 9, finished at 2am, them commenced at 11am on saturday, finishing at 8 on my car..

After a 2 year foray into the world of GM with a Vauxhall Signum, and after having the car written off twice in that time, i decided a replacement was needed:
After Wales Rally GB:
[Image: 1441429_10153480207465364_769646918_n.jpg]

[Image: 1455108_10153480210890364_141490341_n.jpg]

then after the second crash:

[Image: 1011806_10153702271660364_1697505721_n.jpg]

[Image: 1510395_10153704284080364_1206693035_n.jpg]

Total loss again for the second time, however this time the value was alot less than i was expecting, leaving me only £2k to replace it with. there was no way i was going to get another one in that condition for that price and a change of circumstances meaning i no longer needed such a large car, i naturally looked at 306's again.

and up came this:

306 HDi DTurbo, with the lowest miles i think i have ever seen on a car of this age, less than 57k when i picked it up..

body work is very tidy, bar a scuff on the front and rear bumpers, but nothing major. no running issues and no structural issues either :-)

had this a few weeks now and already has both upper and lower Strut Braces fitted, new radio and Subwoofer, HID Main beams and LED interior lights.

Future mods: TBC

Brake calipers painted red now, but i've just picked up a set of 206 GTi180 calipers so they are going on soon. new rear disc and pads as the ones on here look like they've been there since the dawn of time.

Decat and de-middle boxed exhaust fitted

Plans:

Bilstein B6 kit being currently being considered with standard ride height being maintained, just with uprated springs on the front.

Stage 1 remap and maybe a Limited Stage 2 also planned long-term when i can source the 406 hoses

Wheel refurb needed too, Maybe in Gloss or Satin Black or Shadow Chrome (not decided yet)

Solid gear linkages and uprated engine mounts planned too

BakerBM rear beam mounts and maybe top mounts too.

:-) plenty to be getting on with then..

right, so a small Update:

Bilstein B6 kit fitted on the front, -40mm.

Lower strut brace removed as it had an encounter with the earth and bent itself into a funny shape.

Gear linkages fitted.

Stage 1 Remap, Stage 2 intended, inlet elbow sourced, just need the rest of it now.

Oh, and one final thing which you can see in the current standing pic:
