Hi, I've just been given a 98 306 hatch 1.6 petrol which has been stood for 2 years .Anything that I should really do before I start it up? I'll be trailering it home.

Not new to Pugs had about 6 405 and 406's as company cars and then a 307 for 10 years and 2 Boxer vans. My cars are now a Vx Signun , Frontera, 2 Corsas and a Micra ( 21 years old ), the firsst two being mine and these other being driven by swmbo and our two daughters.

The 306 will be a spare car, possibly to replace the Micra. Thanx for any advice.

Best thing to do is make sure it has some fresh petrol and check the oil coolant etc make sure it has all that .

Thanks for the advise, am I right in thinking that the camshaft can be locked on these for changing cambelt, to keep timing right

Fresh petrol, unplug the coils or injectors and crank it over a bit before starting to get some oil up top, let it warm up and then do a oil and filter change.
Yes, doing a belt is very easy especially on the 8v engines. Pin the cam, pin the crank and change the belt. Simple!
