Another toy car project...
#1
So in-between looking after the rugrat, working and giving the Mrs some attention I also like to play with toy cars, with an unhealthy obsession with Tamiya. It's no lie that I could afford to run a much nicer car if I flogged my entire collection, but you only live once - and I live for the 306 lol

Anyhow...

I started this build 6 months ago, the longest project I've ever actually completed.

I'm a bit of a Jurassic Park fan, having grown up with the original film (although I was 5 when it came out in cinemas...) I was just getting into off-roading or 'crawling' as it is sometimes called, which is basically a non-racing slowed-down way of playing with toys. The slower running means you can get away with a lot more detail...

I started off with a bodyshell. There's no off-the-shelf item for this, so I had to buy a kids toy online and take it apart. This gave me a starting point.

I needed a chassis next. I went for a CC01 since it has a solid rear axle and independant front suspension, but it looked kind of cool on my Monster Truck chassis too...

On the CC01 Chassis -

Some cutting and modding later -

Shit got complicated -

Mounted -

Spotlights, foglights, winch and a new bumper...

Oil-filled dampers added -

Scale aerial added, interior painted -

And this is where I'm at now, all that's left to do is add driver / passenger figures and some little accessories -

Cheers fella's, it means a lot when it's taken up so much of my time!

The lights can be controlled from the handset, so indicators, fog lights and the roof-mounted spot lights can be remotely switched on or off. They're integrated too, so when I turn the indicators come on after 1 second, hazards come on if stationary for more than ~10 seconds etc. Reverse lights and brake lights too!

The winch on the front bumper was dismantled, a metal winch cable (up to 30kgs) was added together with metal winch hook. It too can be controlled remotely Big Grin

Now just need to get out and actually play with it of course...

I think the tiny motor and gearbox in the winch would give up first, but that's what the cable is rated to and it sounded more impressive that way haha! Truck itself weighs around 2.5-3kgs fully laden I reckon.
