Would you buy a car, from a guy who only has the green slip?
#1
It's been years since I bought a car.
Basically looking at buying a 306 run around.

It's got tax and MOT but the guy does not have the V5 just the green slip. He wants to meet me outside his Nan's house too.

Can I get the V5 if he doesn't have it.

Looking at car in 2hrs.

No. Steer clear of it, wait until he has the v5

Yeah, it always worries me when they mention that... Sometimes it can be genuine, but doesn't sound worth the hassle. Last time I had to apply it was £25, that was years ago. You can use the green slip and it doesn't cost anything IIRC

He says the person he bought it off has not had the V5 yet.

If you got the green slip take it into the local dvla office or send it off and get one through post I always buy them without logbook don't see a issue tbh

As long as he hasn't filled out his details on the green slip you can send it off saying the previous owner musnt of sent off the V5 and can you have a new one and then you dont have to pay ninja

Take extra precautions when you buy in case it goes bent.
Double check the car matches the spec it should be and that all the ID numbers and age identifiers are correct and look unaltered.
Get full details off the bloke and tell him your doing it in case the car turns out to be stolen or a ringer, great way to see if hes dodgy cos he will react badly if hes scamming you. Ask for his driving licence to copy his driver number off and the address (if you can mentally cop that the pic is defo him and remember his date of birth.) write down yourself any details he tells you about himself including his nans address, the car he turns up in, his phone number and such like.

Oh and get a full signed receipt

Ive bought a couple of cars with just a green slip no issues, just use it to get a really good price as it can knock £££ off the value.

You have to ask yourself why he's selling it before he's even had the logbook back...

Wouldn't worry about it being outside his Nans lol, I've done several sales from my Nans house.

The green slip would worry me though, especially if the person before him hasn't even had the V5 yet!? You get a V5 within 6 weeks usually, so has it been sold twice within this time? Must be a reason if so! Confused

Simple mark..call his bluff !!!

Say you need the toilet in his Nan's house, if you can go then he might be genuine about the v5...if you can't go in the house walk away
