Newbie with a 405
#1
Hi guys, i don't have a 306, but a 405, but there is next to no info on 405s out there, and even when i didn't have a Peugeot this forum helped me learn a lot about the diesel engine in my rover 200, so here i am.

Needed a new Diesel runaround, Wanted something slightly cooler than my last rover diesel and it have to have a mechanical pump, a few friends that were into 306s kept telling me to get a Dturbo but I really don't like the looks of the latter ones and a ph1 3door was proving impossible to find, so I did the 'right' thing, and got a 405.

its a 1995 GLX td, 130k, electric stuff, retro interior blah blah

got it cheap needing a bit of work but its very clean. done quite a bit of repair/maintenance so now its time to mod

ill start a build thread soon. but here is how she sits..

Good choice sir, 405's are getting somewhat thin on the ground these days. How are those rear chassis legs looking? The picture isn't working for me.

Thought I should update this. Had loads of work done brake pipes, bushes etc and the main things.
Gti6 front struts with short springs, lowered rear beam
205 gti speedlines and 205/55/15 tyres
Rare option front splitter.
Got some 306 half leathers in going to fit.

All in all she doing ok. Apart from the engine. I dont think it was looked after before I got it. It starts like crap, uses some oil and water, the clutch is slipping and its due belts.

Decided it will be easier to build something up over summer/autumn/winter and drop it in when this one expires.

Iv always wanted this car to be the diesel sports saloon peugeot would have built. A derv mi16 if you will. So want about 150-160bhp

Iv done td04s etc before so want something different.

Options I thrown about are xud11 (on a bosch), hdi conversion (a lot of work)
My favourite at the mo is the illusive m-hdi.

What are peeps opinions of these?

Ace car! Just got myself a 405! This looks ace on speedlines! Any clues as to lowering the front? What struts and springs fit mate?

Iv got 306 gti6 struts and lower springs. You need to keep the 405 top mounts. You can either cut the arb tabs off the struts or leave them on. I left mine incase I want to sell them on.

You can use pretty any mid size psa struts xsara/306/zx/206

I went with gti6 spax shocks and springs originally but they were to low. So now im on stock shocks and lower springs.

Gti6 would be best for a diesel as the engine is is about the same weight.

I might move over to some 306/206 coil overs at some point.
