Dora the Hdi
#1
Welcome to the start of this project called "dora", she started of as just a basic 306 hdi with all its bits in.... untill i got hold of it,

so to begin let me tell you how i got the name dora well it started off with a good girl mate of mine she always named all her cars and she said i needed a name for mine.... i said its a car it doesn't have a name well she forced me to have a name and i said ok dora.... and she said why dora i said because its "dora the explorer she gos everywhere with me".. and that was the start of it all ever since its been the name dora.

so first few mods this was going back a few years so i dont have many pictures of her before i sort of done mods with out pictures and project threads become what they was after i started getting in to it a bit more heavy.

so first mod was i got her windows tinted slight mod but well worth it in my eyes and made a fair bit of diffrence this was when i first got her, also i got a full stainless steel exhaust with decat, and a k&n induction kit (no pics of that apart from you see the tip of the exhaust.)

So as we moved on i went on to her a bit further thinking about what i could do i was not to fond of the cyclones at first so i changed to a new set of alloys, they are only 17" ripspeed ones so yes from halfords but i was young, i also painted the rear spoiler and the side trims for the fuel filler cap so they are color coded, later pictures will show this but first the wheels.

Next step was getting her dropped! she needed to be lowerd so i sat her low on a set off spax rsx coilovers, dropped to 60 on the rear and about 50mm on the front, also notice the color coded fuel filler cap (both sides) and the spoiler now all color coded.

So not long after this i drive that for a while i had to change the tyres and opps, with that drop i found out the 17"s are to big and when i put some new tyres on, i found the tyre walls on the inside got destroyed, i noticed coming off the forcourt the garage said its not there fault i said you put them on you should have known it wasent safe instead of just gunning them on... they should have put my old tyres back on but they said not my faut and sent me on my way, so lucky it was only round corner from my house got home took the alloys stright back off and the old wheels "cyclones" went back on as this was now becoming dangarous.

so while im playing about i started getting bits for my Front mount intercooler and all the pipework and bits i need for it heres the pics of the parts, first the intercooler its self,

* Bar and Plate Intercooler Corn size: 550mm x 175mm x 64mm, Overall length: 690mm

* 2.25" (57mm) Inlet and Outlet

* Maximum Pressure: 45psi

* Max Horsepower Capacity : 450hp

secand bit the 406 hdi inlet manifold.. ok there is 2 of these this one (i have) and another one, i found i got the wrong one, but i adapted it and it ended up working to my advantage at a later date pictures to come of what i done, but just so your aware there are 2 types of 406 hdi inlets.

Next up was the 2 slim line fans, these are basic ebay jobbys i really cant remember what ones they are but as i say just basic slimline fans.

ok next up was pipe work i have bought all my piping from artel motorsport seen at http://www.artelmotorsport.co.uk they are a good bunch and there good quailty hoses i would rather pay the price once and know what im getting.

so more bits and a new nessens rad came in, i say new it came off a mates 306 that got broken, so i nabbed myself a bargin and got this, its a lot deeper then standard to highly efficiant at cooling.

in the process i managed to get hold of a new dump valve aswell some say it doesnt work on a diesel witch in a way thre right but.. it does depend on how much your boosting if you boost a high psi and take your foot of the throttle wheres all that boost going back to the turbo so its better to be released. but im not sure still yet hasent been put on as i might be going external waste gate route.

so reading about found a set of full goodridge braided lines, ohh lots of goodies turning up at my door Big Grin

so back to the 406 hdi inlet i said i had modified it, well this was the outcome, its the basic elbow with the egr blanked off and a 51mm pipe welded to the end off it easy fitting for my piping then Big Grin

So for part to this is more about what i been doing to it now we got fairly most the bits to start and make somthing now so lets have a go.

started of with starting to strip out the back got rid off all that heavy insulation and the rear seats, i swear thats what put up the 306's gross weight.

Next step was the EGR Valve aka exhaust gas recirculation valve this little thing allows exhaust gas back in to the engine to allow it to be burnt again to give you cleaner emissions... well i never been envirement friendly at all, and all i want is nice clean air running in to my engine, cleaner air better performance. so i got to work disabling then little thing, so becouse the hdi has so many sensors and plugs the easy work around for this is take the pipe off the egr valve (by the turbo) and shove somthing in the end, this way the engine still thinks its working as its sucking, and switching, so theres no EML on taking the plug off throws up faults and we don't want that.

so remember me saying i put my old wheels back on (cyclones) this was due to the fact of the tyres rubbing on the inside, i did paint them in a similer color to the car but had a flip paint i had this for quite a while and liked it but in certain lights i changed a green color and dident match it very well but i kept them..

then i got some new bucket seats i say new..... i mean old 2nd hand ones but they do the job they looked a bit tatty and worn so i sent them to a mate of mine and he stiched them up and took the red cobra out as it dident go with the car.

so getting on a bit more with the car, i got hold of a new OMP strut brace it really made a diffrence to the cars handling, combined with the spax rsx coilovers, was a great partnership, i also painted it yellow as i dident like it in red.

now this was the time stuff really got moving the front end was off and a start was being made to this rads, fans, wiring and other bits.

This was my work bay at work with the car on it, stuff layed everywhere and new bits going on, trying to put her back together so i could get home

i got to start on the slimline fans, and putting them to the nessens rad, was a bit of a struggle becoz they dident supply enough fixings so it kinda annoyed me but i had to make do and its worked since, but i will be changing these at later date but while its working im not fusssed at the mo.

so we got rads in fans on, quick line up to make sure shes going in like she should and we will go for that.

after she lined up quite well, i decided to chuck the front panel back on by this time it was getting late in the day and she had to be back together, its like an eposode of "west coast customs" will we do it, or won't we tune in next week to find out" ** spoiler alert** yeah we done it...

so this was the trouble bit french wiring, why is it so difficult, why cant they have simple switchs why do you need to be linked with the aircon... why oh why.... anyway this is how i put it, its under the front panel tidyed out the way, have to put a bag or put it in a box later or wire it up so its somewhere else, but at this time shes going there.

see from the top veiw you can just see the cable tie poking through the holes.

so back to this horrible french wiring i couldent figure out what was going on and why it wouldent work... it just the fans dont work, but apprentlly its linked to the air con, i was getting lives where i should be and the temp switch works the relays clicked i really stuck for what else this thing could be..

after playing for a good few hours! i thought f**k this and i went to looked at the aircon, i decided to chop it in half and see how this air con switch workedas i knew the fans are linked with that. so in the end figured out how it worked and what wires i needed to join orange to brown and red to yellow, this made my fans work only problem is it made one work all the time.

its been said that it can over cool and bla bla but i see it as with the diesel block it heats up fairly quick anyway and if my thermostat is closed its heating it all up anyway so its never botherd me, they do say it can exhaust the fan life a bit witch yeah it may die a sooner death but my fans only cost me about £20 each anyway it never really affected me. i guess i could run it on a switch but i would forget and i dont need more hassle of buttons so i left it like that.

now the braided lines have been installed looking good, as i say they made so much diffrance when i installed them the brake pedel felt more responsive.

so a new chapter means some new parts have turnt up, some new sabelt 6 point harness, strapped and booted!.

as it was a nice day i decided to clean all my harness and let them dry out in the sun, they was a little it grubby.

being on the cyclones made dora sit a lot lower now, so we had to buy a sticker to celebrate the fact lol

right this bit was a struggle the engine bay clips peugeot supply are really shit, there not great and always snap, so i decided to design my own threads and bolts it looks a lot better then the standard peugeot ones you get and more sercure, so pics of the new threads and cover all on and color coded.

ok this was the start of a very long drawn out process now, with money and time, its a bit hard to do as the hole fmic has to be custom i wanted it done right so its taken my longer then i thought but, least im doing it my way. this is the new bracket system for the fmic all set up, and sitting in the center.

right i went a bit overboard on this one i found out you dont actully need to take much out the bumper well i did and still kept its strengh it gives me a lot more room to play about behind it now if i ever put something else down there like that packet of haribos youve always wanted to hide but cant keep them in your glovebox as the misses always gets in the car and eats them....

so with that done, i needed to move my aircon pump and take it off completly otherwise there was no space for the piping to go through so on gos the shorter belt and the pump removed completly ahhh room to move.

so with that out the way back on to the fmic, i had to cut away the legs to be able to fit the 51mm piping through, was a pain but we got there, spreyed it all up after aswell so it looked a bit neater and tapped over all the ends so it dident rub heres pictures from various angles looking at it..... propaaa job!

next step geo it, ive been having a bit of trouble with the streering wheel sitting stright and tyres wearing, so we checked it, but first problem i found, the car was to low for the ramp fail! lol

after some struggling and blocked of wood and all sorts we managed to get her on and we gave her a 4 wheel allignment turns out nothing was wrong, just steering wheel had moved slightly not sure why but once stright she was all good.

so back to the wheels remember me saying i dident like them going a green color when moving well i decided to go all out black but with a diffrance, in the dark they look full black and even in the light they look black. see...

another one in daytime still looking full black, gos witht he black and blue of the car anyway, its a pain as i have to keep my tyres blacked up now lol.

but hit my wheels with direct light ohhh there blue Wink so pure black you look at them but soon as direct sunlight shines on them they give off a blue sparkle it was to add a bit off effect so it wasent just a plain black.

so got all my seats back and all my harness now, so i decided to install them in, this is how they look with its install, the back now has been completly stripped out, now here is a few pics off it, and how i installed it,

ok so just so you know the harness arnt installed correctly as such, they will work if i have an accident but in a motorsport kinda way they are set up wrong i have some poles and plates to make up a proper harness bar for it and its in the process at the moment.

yeah thats basicly it, its just a cooler sitting there, with 2 90 degree bends at the moment, and i have the top inlet adapter, but i need all the pipe work and any other bits, witch looking at dum dums post is a c5 lower hose, instead of a 406? its working out all them bits,

thats what i mean its nearly there its just.... having no enthusasim to do it, and buying it all, and then i need a remap, need to plumb in the boost gauge aswell, its just i cba to Sad maybe it is the weather thats making me like it, summer ill be back on it again, just having secand thoughts.

thanks ginge, yeah ive got mikalor on the front 2 90 degree bends, and about 15 in the garage so clips i should be sorted,

and yeah the back does look a little weird gonna take out the front helper springs and drop the front more, so should level it slightly.

lol, yeah the front looks a bit diffrent now with the tyres as the tyres on there i have a huge arch gap thats becouse there on 195/45/15 was the tyres orginaly on the clones, but now they have the 195/50/15, heres a dirty picture of her, i dont mean dirty like 306 porn i mean shes actully dirty from salt on the roads.

[Image: 430354_10150541869009965_730414964_88358...5755_n.jpg]

but i will be taking the "helper" springs of later on the coilovers suppose to help with comfert but seriously being that low its pointless anyway, so take away that spring and it will allow another 25mm roughly drop or play... im going to drop it as far as it can go with out the spring jumping out of the cup, when no weight. so im at a 75mm drop on the front at the moment so it should allow up to a 100mm drop on the front should close the gap up really nice..

as they say "arch gap is like a womans virgina, the more fingers you can fit in.... the worse it is"

haha the haribos yeah she always done that and my chewing gums i used to have to hide aswell. ninja

naa lol the reasons why i wanna take the helpers out is becouse, well practicality, i keep my ajustment spanners in the car with sockets and a torque wrench, so when i go to fcs if i got to park in the camping feild i can just raise it write up (will look odd) but i will be able to get in and out of places and at a show i can take wheels off and ajust fully drop it to next to nothing, and people go how does he drive about with it like that.... and its static Tongue

thats the reasons of taking off helpers rather then springs and dampers, its all to do with a bit off practicality,

so quick update for you all, ive decided after so long to raise the rear beam slightly back up, being near the bump stops and the fact it always looked lower on the rear then front, always made it look a bit crap, so as i say decided to raise her back up a bit gives a bit better cornering now tho as it doesnt hit a bump and jump round.

also i will be painting my alloys again soon, ive got a color in mind but.. im not sure what its going to look like, might look shit might look alright, its one of them colors that has to be tryed on and stared at for a bit i think. maybe next weekend i will get them painted, but i know i need to do my rear breaks for the m.o.t, that will have to go in asap.
