the pedal does move, i can stop but its as if the vac pump has failed, when you remove the pipe from the pump, is the pump supposed to make a noise or suck/blow?

If you go for a long drive does it start working properly again? Mine used to do this, but fixed itself after a while

no sean, always like this, swampy its not hard like the servo pipe has come off but its quite a bit harder than usual, think maybe leaky servo or MC?

Leaky servo or vac pump/piping

I had a similar problem on my HDi a couple of months back......check the braided flexi hose between the vac pump and the metal lines on the bulkhead. This was split in two places on mine and looked compressed instead of round. It wasn't easy to see that it was split due to the braid covering it. There's also a one way valve that plugs in on the top left of the servo at the other end of the vac line from the pump. This was sticking and had to be replaced too. The valve is easy to test when it's off the car, simply blow through it and if there's any resistance and it pauses before it opens then change it as it should operate instantly.

I changed both and problem solved.

Turns out vac pump was faulty, tried 4 and none worked, tried one off my mates car and they worked, so went to the scrapyard and got another, was looking good, it made all the right noises and it was sucking air in, went for a drive and still the same, unless you rev the car before you brake, then its as if the brakes are fine, then thy go shit again, again having to rev it so they work :/

That definitely sounds like the same issue I had Padge..........I'd put money on it being the one way valve that's on the servo end of the vac pipe from the pump. It's jamming shut and stopping the vacuum......

They're only £20 for the dealer and take 10 mins to change.

No worries mate, if there's even the slightest pause before it opens when you blow through it change it....even if it's only a split second. When you blow through a brand new one it'll open instantly Wink

It must be that valve unless you've bolted a faulty servo on
