no brakes - padge - 09-03-2013

tried a different vacpump, and the pedal still barely moves, when it does, the car barely stops! any ideas?

RE: no brakes - rocker8742 - 09-03-2013

Jammed pedal?

RE: no brakes - padge - 09-03-2013

the pedal does move, i can stop but its as if the vac pump has failed, when you remove the pipe from the pump, is the pump supposed to make a noise or suck/blow?

RE: no brakes - Just Sean - 09-03-2013

If you go for a long drive does it start working properly again? Mine used to do this, but fixed itself after a while

RE: no brakes - swampy - 09-03-2013

Is the peddle really hard to press??

RE: no brakes - padge - 09-03-2013

no sean, always like this, swampy its not hard like the servo pipe has come off but its quite a bit harder than usual, think maybe leaky servo or MC?

RE: no brakes - Dan! - 09-03-2013

Leaky servo or vac pump/piping

RE: no brakes - declantg - 09-03-2013

Sounds like a leak in the vac piping. Sounds exactly like mine

RE: no brakes - padge - 09-03-2013

if its a leaky servo, that means dash out right? and tried looking for a split in the pipe but cant see one.

RE: no brakes - Piggy - 09-03-2013

take pipe off servo and run the engine...should feel it working if you stick ya finger over the end

RE: no brakes - padge - 09-03-2013

ye, tried that, theres nothing happening.

RE: no brakes - Piggy - 09-03-2013

then its defo servo pump/or pipe to it

RE: no brakes - padge - 09-03-2013

not a leaky MC then?

RE: no brakes - Piggy - 09-03-2013

well if the vacuum pump aint pulling a vacuum..........?!??

RE: no brakes - gareth7 - 10-03-2013

I had a similar problem on my HDi a couple of months back......check the braided flexi hose between the vac pump and the metal lines on the bulkhead. This was split in two places on mine and looked compressed instead of round. It wasn't easy to see that it was split due to the braid covering it. There's also a one way valve that plugs in on the top left of the servo at the other end of the vac line from the pump. This was sticking and had to be replaced too. The valve is easy to test when it's off the car, simply blow through it and if there's any resistance and it pauses before it opens then change it as it should operate instantly.

I changed both and problem solved.

RE: no brakes - padge - 10-03-2013

Vac pump does work, brakes still dont

RE: no brakes - gareth7 - 10-03-2013

I'd say the one way valve is jammed shut then Padge.

RE: no brakes - padge - 10-03-2013

Think servos f*cked tbh

RE: no brakes - gareth7 - 11-03-2013

I'd check the valve before you commit to changing the servo Padge......

RE: no brakes - padge - 11-03-2013

Turns out vac pump was faulty, tried 4 and none worked, tried one off my mates car and they worked, so went to the scrapyard and got another, was looking good, it made all the right noises and it was sucking air in, went for a drive and still the same, unless you rev the car before you brake, then its as if the brakes are fine, then thy go shit again, again having to rev it so they work :/

RE: no brakes - Tom - 11-03-2013

Sounds very vacuum related.

RE: no brakes - gareth7 - 11-03-2013

That definitely sounds like the same issue I had Padge..........I'd put money on it being the one way valve that's on the servo end of the vac pipe from the pump. It's jamming shut and stopping the vacuum......

They're only £20 for the dealer and take 10 mins to change.

RE: no brakes - padge - 11-03-2013

Checking that tomorrow mate Wink thanks

No worries mate, if there's even the slightest pause before it opens when you blow through it change it....even if it's only a split second. When you blow through a brand new one it'll open instantly Wink

RE: no brakes - padge - 12-03-2013

Checked the valve, opens instantly when uou blow through it

RE: no brakes - gareth7 - 12-03-2013

Sounds like you've got a dodgy servo then Padge.....seems you've ruled everything else out mate

RE: no brakes - padge - 12-03-2013

Already started the servo change Smile

RE: no brakes - gareth7 - 13-03-2013

Hope it gets the problem sorted for you mate.......le us know how it goes?

RE: no brakes - padge - 14-03-2013

changed brake servo, and there still the same.

RE: no brakes - Arron - 14-03-2013

It must be that valve unless you've bolted a faulty servo on
