"NYEO" Rich's RX7 FD3s
#1
Alright people, been a couple of months but I'm back. Originally being a 306 forum I wasn't going to start a new thread for my new car... However a few people now have asked me to get a thread up so here it is Smile

My RX7 FD3s

I do have a few things planned, but my top priority first of all is setting some money asside for a engine re-build which it will inevitably require during my ownership. As a whole it's in fantastic condition and runs really well, there are just a few areas here and there that I want to tidy up a bit.

So until I have the money safetly to one side, this thread is going to pretty much just be used to picture whorage and the occasional naughty video Tongue

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As far as performance goes, the previous owner has already done a lot of work. Currently sitting at 290bhp at 11psi of boost on an Apexi Fuel Managment System. It does have a lot more to offer, but again I'm going to hold off on more power until it's had a re-build. Plus 290bhp is more than enough for me at present Itwasntme

One of my favourite parts about this car is the interior. Though what you'd deffinetly describe as snug, it is such a nice place to be.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So far I haven't really done much besides begin the tidy up, starting with a good polish of the front sidelight/indicators to bring them back to life...

Other than that she is as I bought her Smile

I'm trying to get a decent video of sound and acceleration, but I'm waiting for some decent road conditions... So once I have it, I'll get it posted up.

Thanks Guys

Good to be Back Smile

Lovely looking car dude Smile wouldn't mind one myself. Actually saw a nice one when I went to pick up my hard top a while back, apparently he imported them... and was also working on putting a '7 lump in his MX-5!

Cheers guys.

That MX-5 would be a machine! My mates currently re-building an MX-5, took him out in this the other night and now just a simple rebuild isn't good enough lmao

Yeah this ones an import. As far as the emissions go... It's no Prius to say the least... Tongue

Very nice! Only pick is the front plate, id have a normal two row import plate on there Smile

Yeah I agree, the current plate isn't staying where it is. I'm actually looking at getting a mechanism to fold away the plate under the grill/bumper. But that again will be at a much later date.

Yeah I can imagine it'll be a beast! I'm just planning a DIY turbo for mine in the future.

Like that plate idea, be interested to see that Smile

Very nice Big Grin how much roughly is a rebuild on one of these? Every 60k they have to be rebuilt isn't it?

Between 2 - 3k for a decent rebuild with some uprated parts thrown in there which you may as well do while it's apart. 60k is the average mark however these engines will keep going if they've been looked after like they were designed to be. This ones done a mixture of miles and kms so it's actually done between 70k and 80k miles, and is running sweet as ever at the moment.

They can just sh*t themselves with no word of warning but that's just part of the fun and the risk I guess isn't it lmao

The RX8 engine 16B gave the rotary a bad name as this one did suffer from a lot of what people have come to know as the common problems of rotary engines. Where as the 13B was much more stable if maintained properly.

Only type of car where it's recommended you redline it at least once every trip... Try explaining that one to the police Tongue lmao

To be fair that's not bad for another reliable 60 odd k.. Really? Why do you have to redline it lol?

Cant wait for a vid, love the sound of these so much! There was a drift one at FCS and it sounded incredible

They suffer from Carbon build-up in the cylinder which can then lead to friction>heat>cracked cylinder>rebuild lol. The engine was designed to be revved, hense why they're not that torquey, so whenever you rev it high it helps to breakup the carbon and flushes it through. Same as any engine really I suppose but more than usual Smile

Essentially these engines are capable of the same mileage as a normal piston engine, but that requires it being looked after as designed from release, and the chances of every owner putting in the time and effort is very unlikely... I do however have it on good authority that the previous owner, even though he didn't drive it much, did baby this car so that's good Smile

If I could fit in an FD3S I'd have one in a heartbeat... But I don't fit...
