There is a guy who went to ace cafe with a saxo. Gti6 engine in the front and another 6 engine in the back.
So yeah it can be done. Bit I've no idea how hard it is

Phil that twin engine saxo has 5 speed boxes on it.
To be honest, i doubt you would fit a 6 speed box. As we know due to the horrendous right hand lock on a 6, it only JUST fits in a 306 and as im sure your aware, a 106 is quite a bit narrower.
If it were me, id bang a xsara VTS box on it. Ive never driven one but apparently they are a lot better than the 6 box.

Yeah I no what you mean about the 6 box hated mone when I had it, aparently a 6 engine a q.6 205 gear box and 307 xs druve shafts and itll slot straight in, need engine mounts to

a '6 engine in a saxo would be a terrible idea. the ONLY good thing about a saxo is how easy they are to chuck about corners, drop the weight of a '6 engine in and youve lost the only thing worth having a saxo for. would be immensely front heavy therefore handle like a wet paper bag.
the gearbox would never fit either.

just tell him to buy the genuine thing and get a 306 Wink haha

You say that about a saxo, but think of all the people with 205's that have 6 lumps up front! They still handle epic so it cant be that bad

A 205s is much better balanced than a saxo though. Saxos are twitchy as f*ck even with the standard 1.6 lump.
By all means put a bigger engine in one but I just think there's better choices than a gti6 lump

Not really, a 205 is noticeably more twitchy than a 106/saxo.

All you're spouting is theory about weight distribution. Unless you've actually driven an XU10 engined 106/Saxo you can't really judge..

Yes it may feel more front heavy, but doesn't mean the handling will be ruined...

There was a full engine and box conversion 106 gti knocking about on piston heads a while back iirc... But why you'd do all that work to get a 6 engine in is beyond me when the stock engine is so tuneable...

i havnt driven a xu10 saxo no, but ive driven a corsa b with c20let engine conversion, i dont think thats quite as heavy as an xu, but similar size car to engine weight sorta thing, anyway even with £2k of suspension and even more thousands having it set up properly and with welded in cage and all that jazz, getting it around a corner without chronic understeer due to the vast weight so far up front was nearly impossible. i stand by my previous statement that it will ruin the only merit of the car by putting a great lump of cast iron under the bonnet

But a corsa having bad handling characteristics probably isn't down to the choice of engine...

It will fit. If an xud will go in a saxo then a gti6 will go in a saxo. Will need inner wing cutting out so gearbox will fit.

Could always run a 205 Gti gearbox or xsara vts box

I don't think you realise the similarity in weight, combined with the fact that an XU10 is slanted...

The 1.6 16v is NOT a light engine, it's around 120-130kg from what I remember, an XU10 is about 150... But it's slanted...

Keeping weight behind the front wheels is only ever a good thing...

IMO the only 2.0 engine transplant to be done to a 106 is the Dimma 4x4 cossies Wink

A pal of mine had a 106 with a 6 lump and box on, a black one! Iirc it's still on various forums, He's sold it now though as it was due a cambelt and it meant pretty much lifting the lump ha ha

Just do it pal........
I had a fiat seicento with an impreza engine in the back, everyone said I cant be done so I did it.....
it was a pig of a thing to drive but by god it was fun wondering if you were gonna get home alive...... lol

The thing is, I find its better to find out yourself what works and what doesn't.... any engine will go into any car
its the making it fit that's the fun part... have a go and enjoy!!!!

a bit of inspiration.....http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iSmxaORvBQI

i have spoken to carl chambers about putting a 6 engine in a 106. The problem is the exhaust and intake manifolds are the otherway round. Youd need to cut the bulkhead and get some custom manifolds made up. Obviously youll need custom engine mounts and I think you will need custom driveshafts too D:

There was one on ebay a while back. No doubt itd be mental!

Ive looked into it for him it is possible even with the standered inlet and exhaust just need a xsara box and 307 hdi drive shafts, I emaild a guy who had one and je said its ok in a straight line but come to corners it hamdles like a dog as its so front heavey, and fpr the money he spent you could easilly have 160hp out of the jp lump so in all fairness theres not much point really

Pretty much the worst engine Peugeot made after the 2.0 8v XSi engine...
