Severe neck-ache I should imagine!

The shot with the two snails and the supercharger really sums up this project. Shame I won't be at FCS this year to check it out.
Disclaimer: The above is not to be taken to heart and is probably a joke, grow up you big girl.

Not much to update sadly as stuck atm waiting for parts to move it on, but did get turbo oil feeds half sorted the other day, although waiting for some inline filters to turn up atm so cant even finish that.

Made up my own hoses with AN fittings, if anyone is doing custom turbo jobs, this is by far the easiest way of doing this that ive found, fittings for anything in the world are easily avalible, and easy to do yourself...

just trying to get my head round this..turbo at the front feeds the turbo at the back which pumps the air into the engine right?
but where does the S/C come into things?

both turbo's are together, small one gets bypassed when bigger one get onto boost and the output from both goes through the supercharger as a boost multiplier and then into the engine is how I understand it Smile

is there somthing like a throttle butterfly involved then to "turn off" the smaller turbo?

Think of a supercharger as a compression increaser.

Whatever pressure it has on the inlet, it pressurizes it more on the discharge side. That's why Eatons are called positive displacement superchargers.

Nah as the little one would never flow enough air to supply the BFO one..............

Ben Jay Wrote:is there somthing like a throttle butterfly involved then to "turn off" the smaller turbo?

Thats what the bypass is, it diverts the exhaust gasses away from the smaller turbo thus stopping it spooling, again, thats how I understand it anyway Smile

Mark / Ruan are right..

You basically have to imagine is as two systems, saying three just confuses matters...

Basically the supercharger sits infront the intake and provides constantly pressure through the rev range, which makes up for the drop in compression, which has the effects of reducing the haze at idle, reduces turbo lag, and when boost from turbos come in, re compresses the air, allowing higher boost levels while holding turbos in there efficiency for longer... it effectively just alters the engines volimetric efficiency for the better, but obviously using up hp doing so...but my old de comp XUD wouldn't even run without it, just chronic haze / smoke....

So the charger just sits there constantly giving pressure / compounding the boost.

Then the turbos are setup in a sequential setup, meaning one turbo (the small VNT) is for low rpm, and the big turbo is for mid / top end flow, working in a way that the small one literally gets bypasses (hot and cold side) once the big one is on puff, not like compounding where they both remain online / re compressing air...

So basically its a sequentially compounded boost setup, if that makes sence... I made a diagram to try and show what im on about:

It's alot like a vapour compression cycle with a 3 phase inverter driven motor setup! Very clever indeed!

So where does the flux capacitor go?
Reply

So to simplify things the super charger is "always on" being spun by the pulley.
This is fed by both turbos.
Once the smaller turbo has run out of puff it is bypassed and the bigger turbo kicks in feeding the super charger with more air.

The super charger in turn increases the pressure meaning more air is being forced in.

Right?
