Tomorrow night I will commence the longest journey I have ever undertaken with a car and I will be taking the one and only hdi (and the Mrs)!
It is a 2000 mile round trip starting in Glasgow - York - Dover ferry to Dunkirk - Erfurt, Germany and back again after Christmas.
The way there will be with an over night in York but the way back is going to be done in a one'r. 20 hours of boooost
Serviced the car last week, but aux belt still off a groove and squeals some days. (taking replacement :p)
Just for laughs give your opinion in the poll.

I really would sort the Aux belt out for the sake of 1/2 hour max to do it! not worth the hassle of trying to do it on the side of the road IMO

I have tried to fix it several with new power steering pump, new tensioners, new belt and its always goes back and covered about 4k with it the way it is and the belt seems to amazingly still be in good condition so we will see.

Ah.........so its a bit more major than first seems eh
Not much left to change there, something must be out of line slightly, how annoying!

The belt I have to replace it is a shorter one for de-airconning so if its not that, it will be new crank time.

The boring/sensible/hopeful part of me obviously wants to select option one but the other 3 are definitely more interesting... I think I'll go in between and say that we will make it there and back but that somthing will go wrong (referring here to the incident of "f*ck the brakes are on fire" while on holiday in Wales last summer).
Also, Moony I'm sorry, the way back has a stop-over in Brunssum, Netherlands.
But the bottom line is, watch out for the "Stranded in France" thread coming to a forum near you on Wednesday!
On that bombshell: Merry Christmas and safe driving, everyone!

I reckon youll make it, the HDis love the motorway. Id love to hear how many miles you can get out of a full tank of fuel as its very possible that youll do it on less than 3 full tanks.
I think you may have a minor issue like something electric stopping working but youll get back on time and in one peice

According to the TomTom it's 281m from my flat to the ferry port, 4:43hrs. Easy peasy!

My phone can't handle the chatbox!
Anyway, thanks to everyone's great help yesterday, Josie the patchwork pug has made it all the way south to wonderful Kent, we're about 25m from the ferry. Phew! Might still break down in France I reckon but at least we've come this far!

it will be spot on man, if my car can go to knockhill and go around the local area, back home again. then sliverstone and around that area and back home again. both trips with camping gear in. the car was sweet as a nut there and back. so your car will be spot on too!

So the patchwork pug made it! And still zooming!
All a bit nerve racking as most of you will know
Front brakes went, then bonnet hinge snapped - had to change brakes in the rain on the street during work hours, drive at 50mph from glasgow to york cause the bungee cord I used to tie the bonnet down was a bit..well bungee like so it was flapping about. Changed bonnets in York, drove to Germany, ragged it down the motorway, drove back 9 days later, bought new bonnet in York and drove back to Glasgow!
you gotta love the german autobahn!
Seems to be a limiter on 4k but the speed keeps on creeping up a bit slow though after 100. got up to 115 while overtaking and then remembered by wheel rating was 114 so pulled off.
Fun and games
