Excited/Worried 60/40% - Moonstone2.0 - 19-12-2011 Tomorrow night I will commence the longest journey I have ever undertaken with a car and I will be taking the one and only hdi (and the Mrs)! It is a 2000 mile round trip starting in Glasgow - York - Dover ferry to Dunkirk - Erfurt, Germany and back again after Christmas. The way there will be with an over night in York but the way back is going to be done in a one'r. 20 hours of boooost ![]() Serviced the car last week, but aux belt still off a groove and squeals some days. (taking replacement :p) Just for laughs give your opinion in the poll. Re: Excited/Worried 60/40% - mark_airey - 19-12-2011 I really would sort the Aux belt out for the sake of 1/2 hour max to do it! not worth the hassle of trying to do it on the side of the road IMO ![]() Re: Excited/Worried 60/40% - Moonstone2.0 - 19-12-2011 I have tried to fix it several with new power steering pump, new tensioners, new belt and its always goes back and covered about 4k with it the way it is and the belt seems to amazingly still be in good condition so we will see. Ah.........so its a bit more major than first seems eh ![]() Not much left to change there, something must be out of line slightly, how annoying! Re: Excited/Worried 60/40% - Moonstone2.0 - 19-12-2011 The belt I have to replace it is a shorter one for de-airconning so if its not that, it will be new crank time. Re: Excited/Worried 60/40% - MrsMoonstone - 19-12-2011 The boring/sensible/hopeful part of me obviously wants to select option one but the other 3 are definitely more interesting... I think I'll go in between and say that we will make it there and back but that somthing will go wrong (referring here to the incident of "f*ck the brakes are on fire" while on holiday in Wales last summer). Also, Moony I'm sorry, the way back has a stop-over in Brunssum, Netherlands. But the bottom line is, watch out for the "Stranded in France" thread coming to a forum near you on Wednesday! On that bombshell: Merry Christmas and safe driving, everyone! x Re: Excited/Worried 60/40% - Moonstone2.0 - 19-12-2011 :? I'm so glad I know all the details of this holiday Re: Excited/Worried 60/40% - Matt - 19-12-2011 Definatley breaking down, it's French lol Nah in seriousness, if all problems are known/sorted shouldn't have a problem ![]() Re: Excited/Worried 60/40% - hbomb1905 - 19-12-2011 My £100 dturbo did 2000 miles round france, belgium and holland on a lads holiday, fighting to keep up with a high boost gti (409bhp) and a 400bhp evo 8 ... youll be fine! haha i still voted 'never to be heard from again' though sorry haha Re: Excited/Worried 60/40% - Dum-Dum - 19-12-2011 I reckon youll make it, the HDis love the motorway. Id love to hear how many miles you can get out of a full tank of fuel as its very possible that youll do it on less than 3 full tanks. I think you may have a minor issue like something electric stopping working but youll get back on time and in one peice Re: Excited/Worried 60/40% - MrsMoonstone - 19-12-2011 According to the TomTom it's 281m from my flat to the ferry port, 4:43hrs. Easy peasy! ![]() Re: Excited/Worried 60/40% - Poodle - 19-12-2011 Enjoy your stay in France! Phew! Might still break down in France I reckon but at least we've come this far! ![]() Re: Excited/Worried 60/40% - mark_airey - 21-12-2011 MrsMoonstone Wrote:My phone can't handle the chatbox! Re: Excited/Worried 60/40% - Jacko - 21-12-2011 I do hope you make it the whole route mate, but a stranded in France thread would be hilarious ![]() Safe driving, and hope all goes well :handgestures-thumbup: Re: Excited/Worried 60/40% - Connor - 22-12-2011 Bring back a left hand drive HDi ![]() Re: Excited/Worried 60/40% - Matt - 22-12-2011 Guess its going okay, haven't heard anything yet lol Re: Excited/Worried 60/40% - Connor - 22-12-2011 They were in chatbox about an hour ago, have a "brake" issue lol Excited/Worried 60/40% - Matt - 22-12-2011 Haha seriously? Thought that was sorted? Re: Excited/Worried 60/40% - Connor - 22-12-2011 Apparently not >.> lol Re: Excited/Worried 60/40% - procta - 22-12-2011 it will be spot on man, if my car can go to knockhill and go around the local area, back home again. then sliverstone and around that area and back home again. both trips with camping gear in. the car was sweet as a nut there and back. so your car will be spot on too! Re: Excited/Worried 60/40% - Moonstone2.0 - 05-01-2012 So the patchwork pug made it! And still zooming! ![]() All a bit nerve racking as most of you will know Front brakes went, then bonnet hinge snapped - had to change brakes in the rain on the street during work hours, drive at 50mph from glasgow to york cause the bungee cord I used to tie the bonnet down was a bit..well bungee like so it was flapping about. Changed bonnets in York, drove to Germany, ragged it down the motorway, drove back 9 days later, bought new bonnet in York and drove back to Glasgow! ![]() you gotta love the german autobahn! Seems to be a limiter on 4k but the speed keeps on creeping up a bit slow though after 100. got up to 115 while overtaking and then remembered by wheel rating was 114 so pulled off. Fun and games ![]() Re: Excited/Worried 60/40% - mark_airey - 05-01-2012 At least it was a successful trip mate ![]() Re: Excited/Worried 60/40% - Dum-Dum - 05-01-2012 See, I knew youd make it. Re: Excited/Worried 60/40% - Poodle - 05-01-2012 Congratulations for proving most of us wrong ![]() |
