In town...parked up in the 206...
Walk 20feet away after rolling eyes at the way someone was doing a Uturn in the MAIN road through chippy...turn to walk...and CRUNCH.
Old chap has bumped into the r/o/s corner of the 206
He tries all his best to say its nothing. But I insisted on details...despite him saying it wasn't that bad....and that the silver paint on his bumper wasnt from the silver car he just hit but from a previous bump...then 5min later that he passed in 1965 and has never had a bump and is fine driver...
His parking thereafter was horrific...
As sweet as he seemed to many...I honestly can't believe he hit the 206....you'd have to be blind...
I'm inclined to ring insurance company...is it all worth it....

It's why people have insurance.
Get on with a claim. Sentiment means jack shit these days.

Indeed, +1 for ben_w's thing
if he had gotten out of the car and apologised sincerely, offered all his details and suggested an appropriate recourse of action, then i might have said "its ok itll buff out" but having jumped out of his car and suggested that it "was nothing" i wouldnt
Genuinly, how bad is the damage? is it something you can fix easily with a rattlecan and some TLC or is it a proper job requirement?

Yes they do. You have to inform them even if it wasn't your fault. And it'll put Piggys insurance up next year.
Insurance isn't worth going through for a minor bump imo. If you want it fixed, work out a sensible price and ask him to pay for it.
Also, did any of you watch 100 year old drivers during the week? There was an old guy ruining a Focus (ok it was a prefacelift, no big deal) but he kept saying other cars were crashing into him causing all of the damage! Old people love to bullshit...

And piggy is more than entitled to claim for a 15% rise in premiums for 5 years as a result of the kick up from the accident.. ITs called a consequential loss..

Rear ended the Saab last week. Luckily the tow bar saved the car. Its all fine but the rear bumper has marks and dents on it now. Swapped all details but didn't so anything in the end. The Audi front end was smashed in but seeing as mine was fine I said we would just leave it.
Its just not worth the risky of putting up your own insurance whether it's your fault or not.

Yeah little bumps are funny things sometimes.
Many years ago I pulled onto the n/s verge as far as i could (narrow road) to let a towed horse box go past (I also stopped my car),lady driver pulls back onto the road a wee bit too early and scrapes my back bumper with her horsebox mudguard - I get out of the car and look at small scrape on bumper (only an old Renault) and was about to say 'don't worry about it' when she gets out of her car swearing at me and saying it was my fault - I just smiled and said 'I was stopped' but she would not shut up,I eventually said 'ok give me your insurance details' and at that point her Hubby gets out of car and said to get a quote and he would settle it - so I got an expensive quote, pocketed the money and left the bumper as it was .
On a serious note - a friend of mine recently had her car damaged whilst parked and the other driver told her he would pay for the repair, but some weeks later he still had not coughed up and she eventually got it fixed by her insurers - turned out of course that the other guy was uninsured - but the damage on her car was severe enough to warrant a claim.

Do you have a witness?
He'll likely deny it to his insurer, and so they'll judge it 50:50 and the claim will stay on your file for years.
I'll never report anything ever again.

(This post was last modified: 24-07-2016, 06:07 AM by P-Courty.)
I had rear end at a set of lights, was sat there only car with brake lights on for at least a minute, then a woman in a new (at the time) merc a class hit the back of me (realy don't know how she managed not to see the red light or the brake lights).
I'd had a bad day at work so realy wound up at that point, got out to find her extremely apologetic and saying she would give me insurance details or pay for any damage if needs be. Still not impressed i went to the back of the car to find she had cracked my number plate and nothing else! Turned to her car to find my exhaust had smashed her fog light and cracked her bumper!
As she was so apologetic and her car came out a lot worse off than mine i said forget about the number plate and just get your own car sorted as that will cost enough for the mistake.
She was still apologetic and thankful, i was still annoyed but although she'd have to pay out of her own pocket to fix her car it would probably be better as both of our premiums would of went up over a little bump, not having mine going up because of a £10 number plate just wouldn't be right, and like you say Piggy i don't see how that would be justifiably for my insurence to rise (probably another £100-200 a year!).
Stay away from it if it's not too bad and you can either sort it yourself or pay someone else to sort cheap then do it that way and send the old chap the bill.

Its tough, but I'd just move on and take it on the chin.
Watched someone reverse into the zx and take the door out, chap drove off and despite me having reg details I didn't want the hassle in the end.
Could always get in touch and offer to settle for less than his / your excess. Or get a quote from a bodyshop and see what he thinks, shouldn't be too much to do a professional job.
Write it off in your head, and if he ends up contributing towards repair its a bonus.

Take a pic of the damage, if its minor take it on the chin ask him for some cash. If its bad thats what insurance is for. And ues your premium does go up only a little though.
On a break from 306oc for personal reasons. If anyone needs or wants me most of you have my number and or facebook messenger
Thanks for the good times guys n gals. I might be back. Who knows.

Because you're more likely to make another claim if you've been in an incident that wasn't your fault. Sounds mad but that's what the insurance stats show, I thought it was common knowledge by now!
Really, unless the car is written off/undriveable it's not worth going through insurance, particularly for something as low value as a 206.

Seems so unfair....shockhorror.
Pay for insurance...
Leave car parked safely and within lines.
Get hit.
Use the insurance we all have paid for...
Get stuffed all round.

HA
if you tryied that with me you would be told to do one and go through insurance
no matter how small the knock was
i pay insurance so i dont have to deal with the drivers in the cars that hit things
all you need his registration and contact your insurers to start a claim
but this all depends on your policy cover
assuming you are fully comp
fully comp is not always what it is believed to be, read your policy details

If it's non fault then what does the level of cover Piggy has have anything to do with the claim? He could have TPO and still claim from the guy that hit him.

Yeah if it's on the rear you've not got much chance of it going 50-50 I'd have thought, in which case definitely. There's some chance they'll write it off though...in which case you could buy it back and get a big bit of money and fix it yourself or even just leave it and accept that when it comes to reselling it won't be worth as much. If you're keeping it for ages and it was cheap in the first place it's worth it sometimes.
This post is an artistic work of fiction and falsehood. Only a fool would take anything posted above as fact.

all these people saying insurance goes up..
yes it will
its a consequential loss which you are more than legally entitied to ask for..
the standard rate is 15% increase in premium each year for 5 years. as a lump sum..

If insurance can be avoided then do it my insurance premiums have rocketed up after tapping the megane.
Used to be insured for £450 fully comp and this year i had to go to specialist insurance to get it for under £800.
For all the hours spent on the phone and online trying to get it cheaper just get some cash out the geezer and move on, it s a Y reg 206.

im not sure you can ring your insurers to say i dont know whether to claim this or not. Im fairly sure the game is that any damage is meant to go through your insurance. Telling them that you arent going through them and are solving it outside may cause issues :/ JJ would be the person to know about this.

Yeah I understand that...but I'd be ringing the brokers, Brentacre and talking to a chap I've delt with for a few years and sent a lot of business his way... If that makes sense?
