Tom's Nile GTi6
So, heres a useless pic of the snapped bolt - what's the correct way of removing that?

Also had a little run out on Friday (you know what cut that short!) but I stopped for a few pics before it tried to kill me lol.

Broken down 10 minutes after that!

Not sure what the metal ring is btw, pretty sure it didn't come off the '6. lol

So, on to today...

Found this 'RAMmed' under the rear seat...seems a bit odd, do I assume it's broken and bin it??

Anyhow, moved onto removing the ISOfix which will hopefully cover half the clutch cost.

Then decided to remove the door handle in preparation for the replacement...

Some knob had glued the interior handle trim in so it wouldn't come out without breaking ffs!

Got the door panel off, all 2 bolts that were left holding it on anyway...looks just as shit as expected, don't bother putting the foam back then...

You might be able to see the missing nut for the window reg (also below), I thought this may have been the cause for the skipping window so fitted a new one, but that didn't make a difference. The cable itself is loose on the 'down' side so theres nothing I can do about that.

On the plus side, the window motor had been fitted with spade connectors, so looked for good for the passenger side that goes down by pressing up, keep note of that...

Also noticed what may have been the cause of the mirrors not working, will revisit that later.

Got the door handle off, not as difficult as I remember but the white clip broke, is there a bodge for that or do I need to buy a new one? Anyone know the part number before I get on SB? Also, is that glue on there as well, someone clearly like gluing shit together...as well as leaving out as many bolts as possible. Confused

So, with that off and the sun bearing down I decided to get in the shady car and work on the nearside window - problem being it goes down when you press up and vice versa! You guessed it, more f*cking glue on this handle trim! It snapped at the bottom but didn't break the posts so it's not noticeable lol.

There was only one bolt holding this door panel on...but I suppose I should be grateful they didn't glue it on... Rolleyes And yes, this one looks as shit as the other one, no foam here either.

Remember the spade connectors on the window reg on the other side... Yeah... Dodgy Also who uses 6mm crimps on 2.5mm wires? And cuts the car wires too close to the door...

So cut those off and fitted some spade connectors, and swapped the wires over so the window goes down when you press down...yay! Big Grin

Also noticed a window reg bolt missing so replaced that.

Went to refit the door panel with more than one bolt and notice someones bent the door bracket (how!?) so can only get 2 bolts in anyway, granted that's double than was already in there though lol.

As the crimps were already out, thought I'd try fixing the door loom as the lack of mirrors has been pretty annoying tbh, trying to poke them into place at 70 lol. Before even removing the door found this so got the contact cleaner and a wire brush out...quickly remembered how well wire brushes conduct electricity as the central locking started going... lol And decided I probably should have let the battery off...

So, pulled the door off, easy enough for those that haven't and makes loom work far easier.

Found only 2 wires that weren't connected, and one with a rubbish repair but that does at least work. Anyhow, the the that weren't connected were different colours, no idea how one wire can snap into two different colours but crimped them and stuck them together (in case they had to be pulled apart again!) and...the mirrors worked, woop. Big Grin

So yeah, my hatred for whoever has previously worked on this car is still growing rapidly!! But I do now have a window that runs the right way, working mirrors and the door handle removed ready for the new one. Smile

Good work mate. Im sure ill have some of those missing bolts around. You can get 3mm sticky back foam on ebay for cheap and redo the doors. Not sure how long those crimps will last in the loom. Ive got some new soldering iron tips coming so if that means i have a working soldering iron we can properly solder those. Ill have some spare handle surrounds as well so pick those up when your here next time.

Despite all this its still in fantastic condition! You should definitely keep it. Its more fun than some boggo golf.

It's not in fantastic condition unless I'm missing something. Confused. In fact it's worse than some of the breakers I've bought lol.

Just opened the clutch and notice the centre plate has some damage, been dropped I reckon, damage is so minimal it won't even pick up on the camera. Reckon it'll be alright? Just very slightly been 'pushed in' between a pair of rivets. I guess it'll be fine but better to ask now! Confused

It'll take that long to get the airbox out tbh... Forgot that had to come out. Sad They're always rusted in now. Then another hour swearing at the bottom bjs and the driveshaft bearing nuts.

Plus you've clearly not worked with me, I'm not the quickest fitter lol. Should be easy done in a day including loo breaks and driving to buy more of whichever nuts and bolts I ruin. Tongue

Not as much as you'd think. But it is only 150mm cans, the lacquer comes with the colour. It's about £14 the pair on servicebox but I got a bit off as a Pug tech mate bought them for me. Smile

So far it's dry this morning so after a brief loo visit I'll make a start on the clutch! If anyone fancies lending a hand lifting it or passing tools they're more than welcome. Tongue
