Have you fully charged the battery? If it's still sluggish turning over with a charged battery and good earths then it most likely needs a battery.
20-01-2016, 07:22 AM
Yeah it's fully charged, only bought a new one the other week
20-01-2016, 10:15 AM
When you changed the alternator was everything plugged back in correctly?
20-01-2016, 01:33 PM
Yeah I had my mate who's a mechanic help out, he's gone on holiday so can't even look at it again for a few weeks
20-01-2016, 03:21 PM
check he has put the smaller white wire onto the alternator positive terminal not the exiter terminal as this is the supply to the engine/ecu loom

Is it visible from the top of the bay?
20-01-2016, 06:12 PM
maybe.... i think it is on the HDI but you will struggle to see it on the GTI6

It's obscured by the header tank on the HDi I think, that's easily lifted out of the way though.
20-01-2016, 08:36 PM
Well Ive got an hour tomorrow morning to look at it hopefully, I'll double check

All the earths are fine, the code is reading system voltage. I've got an auto electrical place to come out on Wednesday and take a look, we have the code ready so they shouldn't have to charge me silly money just to see what the code is

I've decided to get rid of this car, I'll be either selling it or scrapping it, I haven't got the time to break it though
25-01-2016, 09:17 PM
check the fuses in the car think there is a 5 amp that kills everything

All sorted, I had an auto electrician look at it and he didn't even charge me for telling me what was wrong with it. He said the BSI has failed and it needs replacing, however the ecu and barrel + key needs to be changed as they're paired with a security code. Had a look around and found everything I need for 70 quid all in, remapped ecu too so it's all sorted and running great again. Such a simple issue and a cheap fix for the hassle it has caused.
02-03-2016, 01:20 PM
usually the way..
I had a loose earth, giving weak starting and intermittent "dead" battery (all the lights were on and sorted it was just a bad connection and not able to give enough juice to turn it over so it looked like a dead battery and/or starter... replaced both, found out that the bolt was loose on the box earth on the gearbox... Given the choice between Niall and the sheep. I would choose the sheep!

no bsi on a 306, good luck replacing that one
need a part number? http://public.servicebox.peugeot.com/ and http://service.citroen.com/ will sort you out.

How did I know you'd pick up on that...
Also the barrel didn't need to be changed, or the pickup ring, just swap the chip from new fob to old one.

Steve from HDI tuning confirmed that it is also the BSI..... I think I'll go with what the 306 mapping professional says also it's worked so there's also that
02-03-2016, 06:37 PM
its just an alarm & cl control unit.
with your logic the 5 amp fuse is a bsI as thatll stop it starting too.

End of the day, it's working. regardless of who knows more about 306's, I applaud you all.
02-03-2016, 07:08 PM
Glad you managed to get it fixed in the end. I was watching this thread hoping it would get sorted but didn't have anything to add to the ideas tbf haha

Yeah I'm just really happy, I love 306's and really didn't want to get rid
02-03-2016, 10:18 PM
When you connect to it with PP2k it calls it a Texton BSI iirc? Or maybe CPH - either way, no need to be ultra pedantic, everybody knows it as a BSI.
