Recommended laptop?

Right guys.

I am having to finally buckle to the pressure of buying a computer type device. As space is limited and portability is a must it narrows me down to having a laptop!

All it has to do is run PP2K, Renault CLIP and occasionally pornhub. Oh and some video editing kinda software.

Whats the best sort of machine i could get for my budget of £350-400?

Please help a country bumpkin in need

Pp2000 will require either a virtual machine running in windows 7\8 or windows xp so be carefull of that. Im currently in the process of getting a VM to work on windows 10. Its not going well. If thats all you are using it for though anything nowadays will be fine. Keep branded though. Im a massive dell fanboy myslef and have never had a major issue with one yet.

the video editing software is your biggest issue... otherwise you could have literally anything.

Youre looking for portable so i assume 15" is the maximum. Budget means we are looking at essentially bottom end so youre never going to have a video beast.

Minimum spec id say is dual core (i3/5) and then at least 4gb of memory. HDD is pretty irrelevant as most things in this range will throw in the same rubbish...

Graphics will be integrated so probably looking at the itel 4000HD kind of stuff...

Super budget id go with one of the llenovos. Ive got one and they are built well... however on this one battery is fairly crap and its a basic slow laptop.

this asus seems like a pretty cool laptop as its also a touch screen, 750GB hDD is decent and 8GB of ram is good. Graphics are fairly decent. Not sure on the battery.

both of the above are dual cores with two threads per core. 1.6ghz is the base frequency yet some how this turbos up to 2.6. 1.6 dual is fairly bottom end crap but 2.6 sounds decent. not sure how that actually works.

Missed the video editing bit. Lightworks works well on my low end dell and just as well on my specced up gaming machine.

I like the look of that Asus but the flippy touchy screen bit just seems abit gimicky and something else to go wrong :/

The video editing isnt a massive must have but i am looking to get a gopro or SJcam and start pissing about making some memories

some years back I bought a dell inspiron 15r
intel I5, 500Gb HD, 4Gb ram, can't recall the vid card spec.
was top of your price band back then
has been a good enough runner, just need to replace the power skt sometime

As I've always said, don't buy cheap consumer crap, it'll fall to pieces.

Get yourself a business/pro line machine - you'll pay a premium, even if you get one off ebay etc, something like a HP Pro/Elitebook, higher end Lenovo Thinkpads, Dell Latitude/Precision - you might not get the very latest in spec, but it'll get you a machine that will last, the cheap ones will have the screen hinges fail, keyboard fall to bits etc etc - they'll be worn out before you've gotten good use out of it.

I've a HP NC6400 - which came before the likes of the Pro/Elitebooks and it's still working today, it's tatty and scratched, but it sure does the job! Most reliable laptop I've owned. Compare that to some of the Dell Inspirons I've seen after 6 months and all the shitty plastic bits have just fallen off.

I've literally had family complaints year after year where they STILL go and buy crap from PCWorld and wonder why it doesn't last 12 months!

I'm after buying an Asus x555 there supposed to be decent although I haven't got it yet. Will only really have diagnostic software running on it much like what you need it for.
