I'm going off the info in this thread, Mrbigmac said kit was £300 and ruan said a solid friction plate was about £100........

Zx_Volcanes been running a CG clutch for a fair while in his daily driver, it's been that long I can't remember if it's sprung or un-sprung. Apart from it being a bit sharper than a standard clutch and needing a few extra revs to take off it's perfectly liveable with imo. He's done thousands of miles on it including London driving. Not bad considering it's 250bhp+ and 350ftlb+
It's fairly apparent from this thread that most of you guys are running paddle friction plates with standard pressure plates which I'm sure has a large effect on how they drive compared to the ones I've used. I think the AP one I used had nearly double the clamping force of an o.e clutch!

Wow. May give them another call. They quoted me £150 delivered for just the friction plate earlier this week.

I've got a CG sprung paddle
It has taken untold abuse for tens of thousands of miles, I wouldn't be surprised if it's done 30k+
Very mixed driving, including a lot of start stop traffic, which I just know is raping the clutch.
Small amount of judder, but nothing to write home about
Holding 360+ ft/lbs no troubles
I also had the flywheel surfaced before fitting.
I have seen CG clutches that have supposedly been fitted for a very short time that looked in a very sorry state. But it must be said that isn't my personal experience, and I don't know how they've been fitted ..etc
All in, an absolute bargain clutch kit for very little money that has stood up to a ton of abuse and beyond what CG themselves rated it for.
Prob cheaper than a clutch kit for anything even remotely modern with a hydro / dmf setup.

I know this is in the xud sections but for people running stage 2 and above hdi's would it hold more power converting to the xud setup of a pull clutch or sticking with a push type clutch from cg?

I use a helix in mine with no problems wat so ever. It never slips or judders. Just feels a bit heavier and sharper than standard.

I spoke to lindsy or linda. Something like that. Jist the friction plate though. May see if i can push for a pressure plate as well. If enough interest we could put in multiple orders for a discount.

Only skim read this but check what the clutch springs are rated to. Most including the CG and Valeo are only rated to 280lb/ft and if you are running past that as you almost certainly are then you will snap springs. Also at 280lb/ft you lock the springs solid and effectively have an un sprung clutch anyway.
Unsprung is not bad to drive even in traffic, you probably won't notice much of a difference and it's one less thing to go wrong.

That's the only trouble with a sprung clutch tbh - they're just not designed for the amount of torque, and without modifying the springs and seats they will just go solid - that's when bad things happen.
Generally they're cheaper if they're overstocked on something, but linda is mick's missus, and they sit next to each other in the office, so she's clued up.
Custom roll cages/shiny suspension bits/general fabrication work undertaken, PM me.
Top engine mount repair/reinforcement/chocking for cracked chassis and high powered cars, drive in, drive out, 2 hour turnaround.

So spoke to them again today. Linda again. Who i spoke to last time. She seems to know her stuff. £250 plus delivery is lowest with pressure plate.
Im assuming the pressure plate is uprated with a higher clamping force. Better be foe an extra £100

Does anyone happen to know the bedding in time with them? 1000 miles at normal driving? Can't remember.

Bottom of the page.
Sorry if it muddys the waters even more but regarding the springs binding past rated torque. The ZX has been running 25%+ beyond peak rated torque for thousands of miles on a sprung clutch. Power delivery is pretty linear tho thanks to the controller and Tom's efforts, this may have something to do with it?

Im not all that sure on the cg pressure plates, they have some grooves in the and are painted other than that they dont really look any different. Im not 100% sure though, they do say they are uprated though

Ah the second hand brand new one you bought. The right one looks like a standard jobbie painted black with grooves machined in.

Think the CG pressure plates are standard apart from the paint and grooves tbh - clutch isn't any heavier to suggest a higher clamping force

I have a picture but damn uploader wont work so ill try again later. The friction plate itself is a pretty cool look piece of kit.
HOWEVER. STAMPED ON THE PRESSURE PLATE. IN CAPITALS.
VALEO. Just with the same grooves as what are shown on Frosty's too.

Thats what i thought. And as i have a brand new valeo pressure plate anyway i wont buy the full kit. Ill buy the friction plate. So it looks like they just machine in some grooves.
