update -  

so i've been having trouble with the electics, and i think i found it with everyone's help, turns out it was the alternator at fault, as when i took it apart with the help of a mate up the road, it was broken.... REALLY REALLY broken, and it's a miracle it even managed to put out 13 volts or so..

so i got one ordered, and expected it in a few days time, only for it to arrive this morning, about 10 hours after ordering it   even so i expected it to be a cheap chinese no-make as it didn't list what it was on ebay, but again -

and once it was fitted and confirmed working, i set about replacing the dash bits that'd been in the boot for a few weeks,  and came across the speaker grilles... now the new speakers didn't fit with the grille on, so i set about some 'modifications'

i took this:

cleaned it up with a hammer round the edge

and put it back in the car, meaning despite the fact i'm not entirely happy with the look of it, and they may be getting swapped at some point when i have some more money for better ones / normal grilles, my car has a full interior for the first time in 3 months or so...

might even clean it tomorrow, gonna be going out to the pie restaurant in hunmanby i the evening... so plenty of time to sort myself something to do during the day

not a lot has changed on this except for the PAS making more of a nasty noise, it's dirtier, the plastidip has rubbed off on the back a bit where i had my bike carrier, and more bird shit

mainly because of half marathons and the training involved, trips to dalby forest on the bike, getting back into theatre, building Greased lightning - more on that later (has taken up most of the time lol) kids, life etc

plans before pugfest - get it lowered (had the springs for 4 months or so - just lazy)
- new coat of dip
- weld up a new exhaust mani, the standard one is naff and blowing so a 4-2-1 may have to be sorted out at last...

happened yesterday going from hull to beverley, started losing power on the bypass, then started dying and coasting, re-firing, running on what sounded like 2, managed to coast it into the halfords carpark, and had a fiddle but with no luck, could be electrical, could be fuel, so i'm going to check everything this morning, and if i can't find anything easy to replace or fix, it's days are numbered

had a quick look this morning, and it does start, but dies almost straight away, if you prime the fuel pump a few times (v.noisy) it runs for about 20 seconds then dies, so fuel problem more than anything... sigh

got myself a new fuel filter, and about to go down the breakers to find myself a petrol 306 to swap the pump out of, hopefully it'll sort it

well i managed to find precisely no 306's in the breakers yard, so i've nabbed a couple of different pumps, one from a 206, one from a maaad jdm micra, they're both slightly different, but the 206 one has fixed the problem so spare jdm fuel pump in the toolkit just in case

it may end up having a 1.5d from a saxo or 106 tbh, keep the gearbox, just swap out the electrics, engine and derv bits, strap on a turbo, and burn the 1.4 just for good luck

DO IT. 1.5D swap is very possible as I've been looking as putting 306 box on the 106.

I may come and help with the swap if I have time/money.

Right, well the 206 pump needed to be vertical, as it was causing massive surge and fuel starve issues all over the place , Air in the pump housing most likely, so i had to ditch this :

and find some fuel hose to make this fit the tank, and thankfully it does

then on to tidying up some stuff, amongst cleaning the car out and vac'ing the carpet (yuck lol) i thought about using my new tool to fix this:

the old mount to the aftermarket water bottle was rusting and shit, so bought some of this

added a stainless bolt in there for bling (lol)

also noticed the paint on the roof hasn't fared so well as the rest of the car, but still looks ok, bit of roadkill style 'Patina'

and how she stands overall, there are more bits to do before pugfest for sure, but doubt i'm doing more paint, mainly because i can't be arsed, but i do like the 'dirty' look

on a side note, i was at the garage asking about some fuel hose, and noticed a bit of exhaust i thought might come in handy   sometime over the summer, possibly (if everything else is done) might weld up a new mani using this as a donor for the tuby bits and collector, and get some v-bands from ebay so i can weld it all up before pugfest

Why not just get a saxo / 106 tubular manifold and modify the downpipe? we get them in cheap at work all the time i could do you a good deal on one im sure

this was free though lol, and i already have the flange off a saxo one i had ages ago, it's mainly so i can get the lambda sensor as well as a wideband a ways up the pipe above the join, the standard flange is crap and leaks - makes car run rich (last tank it did about 18mpg and that was a lot of mixed bag slow town driving, motorway, breaking down etc, bit of everything)

So pugfest was awesome, maybe next year i'll do a bit better on the hill, only did 2 runs and as predicted, i burnt the clutch a bit, there's a worrying whine coming from the gearbox (mainly due to most if not all the fluid being on the road / driveway), and the bottom end is not as quiet now lol

If we are talking about the white patch between the exit of the esses and the braking for semicircle that wasn't someone that merely "dropped fluid" that was the only crash of the day, a 205 that went into the barriers popping his rad and oil cooler before driving off (obviously ignored the briefing). I think me, John and Darcy were pretty much the only ones to watch that crash.

1.4 Hill Runs in full 1080p goodness!! 1:10 and 1:09, all together in 1 video, I could of trimmed them but I couldn't be arsed. Just remember on Top Gear the Stig in a 200bhp 306 only did it in 59.4s for bragging rights at work.

sooo cool thanks chris!! good to see which bits i could improve on as well,

going on that first run, mistakes were too slow off the line, lifting at the first corner (could've gone much faster but was a 'sight' lap lol, and a couple of gearchanges in the wrong place

second was more giggles than anything, bit of a bog off the line, same lifting at the 1st, wrong gear for the hairpin, locked up at the second one (#Browntrousers ) so a bit wide, wrong gear after the esses, and slowed down too much for the final corner...

i think the best idea for next year is to sort out the suspension with some better gti spec stuff, man up and go for a few runs in the afternoon when it's a bit dryer, track was a bit moist in the earlybirds

right, it's been a while since the last real update, mainly as i've been waiting for parts to arrive, i've decided on going with the full PH3 1.4 engine, mainly as it has lower miles, and is a better starting point for modifications, the SPI has it's advantages, but it fails at the refinement gate... lol,

  the engine is fully torn apart, head is stripped and off to the machine shop for skimming, when it gets back it'll be getting a proper working over,

i managed to misplace the ECU so i got another one, and got that sent off for unlocking, it's waiting at the post office for me to pick it up tomorrow..

CAT, head set, water pump, timing belt, clutch, diff seals all here and ready to be used



so in the next couple of weeks it'll be getting a nice engine change
