Guide: Fitting a Top Glove Box
#1
1. Battery disconnected.

2.Stereo out.

3.There is a securing spring pin on the right of the air bag. Left inside the stereo hole. There may be a bolt to remove first to allow the sprung lever to be moved.

4. That should allow the air bag to be removed. Undo the wiring. Put a resistor in if you are keeping the airbag system. (1.8 ohm resistor .025 watt with a 2 amp fuse for overall 2.1 ohm resistance)

5. Remove the securing sprung pin by removing the two bolts on the right.

6. The air bag sits in a metal surround which is riveted to the dash. Get a drill and you can easily get through these. Leave the glove box closed and they will all fall into there which keeps tings tidy. Remove the torx screws too.

6. Once the metal frame is removed you can screw in the top glove box. However the rivet holes are larger than what the screw holes should be so its a bit wobbly!

7. Radio back in and battery reconnected. Done!

Nice one sam. :-)

Once I've done this I'll have no airbags, do you know if I just fit resistors to everything, or can I remove the whole system.
Obviously I need light for mot reasons.

Surely using U nuts would be a safer option over it just 'being a bit wobbly'?

Yep good one JJ. Would probably work! Just haven't done anything about it as wobbly was good enough.

If you've removed all the airbags and pretensioners (i.e. running buckets) then you should be able to remove the airbag ECU and no resistors. Wiring will still obviously be there unless you fancy stripping the car and stripping looms.

the airbag light will stay on as there is a lamp link in the airbag loom that triggers when its all unplugged

you can remove the lamp or remove the link
the link is easier to get to than the lamp in the dash Wink

This just keeps the light on, to let you know it's turned off. :-)

Just need something in its place.
