The Landrover Cummins (12v 6BT) Conversion
#61
Made a bit more progress on this on sunday, put it over the pit and welded up an exhaust for it, something which we have been meaning to get around to for ages!

Started with turbo dump pipe to get down past the motor:

Please ignore the messy wiring, its all temp starter wiring until we wire in the 12/24 crossover relay!

Due to VERY limited space for the exhaust to go in without just going straight underneath and getting detroyed as soon as we took it offroad, we had to route it up around the transmission, which was quite a fiddle, but turned out to fit rather well / managed to keep the front half sold / bolted to engine and gearbox, leaving just the rear section on a flexi / rubber mounts:

Then up through the floor, and once the cab is back on, we will have a stack behind the cab, but for now just a short pipe to direct it away from the landrover:

Took for a test drive in the field and sounds good!!

looks good, dont forget to add an air charging point, nothing worse than when its dropped all its air and stuck in gear.

Luckily the clutch still operates with no air pressure, its just very heavy, its basically an "air assisted" hydro clutch... So although it seems to hold air, it wouldnt matter if it didnt...good thought tho!

We have an air fitting on the back anyway for using air tools / blowing up tyres as seemed silly not to given the air tank was right there!

Must admit im quite excited to get it finished / on the road just to turn up the wick on it a bit, sadly engine has far to much potential for the diffs!

That's a nice heated seat you've got there. Big Grin Lovely bit of pipe you've made, can't believe it all fits in so tidily!

Watched the video of this, that thing sounds absolutely amazing, can only imagine what it sounds like in real life.

Don't get the diss on the gopro at the start though Wink that video footage had so much more in the shot, and can push it down into crevices like chris did Big Grin

Spent a bit more time on this today, mainly been on wiring sorting out all the gauges / relays for extra lights etc, along with the 12/24c shunt relay. But also made up a new transmission tunnel to cover in the ZF behind the cummins, a few photos of it, bit awkward due to the handbrake etc in the way, coat of paint / cover in rubber and should look relitively oem, and the stock fusebox will still bolt to the firewall above it, which is a nice bonus!

Also rebuilt the transfer box last weekend with some 1.003:1 gears, just waiting for new input shaft to be machined to fit the ZF again, and should be able to bolt it all back together with much longer gearing, which will be great.

Nearly at the point of putting the cab back on!

Ohh, Playlist fail, will have a look later!

As a thread update while I am here, this has been on the road for over 1000 miles now since the new billet gears went in the transfer box and so far faultless, and have turned up the wick a bit now, safe to say it moves around now!
