Not sure I'd want a "cheap" breaker bar tbh, let us know when it snaps and has your eye out lol x

I bought a cheap 36in one, the knuckle snapped when slackening off the wheel nuts on the rallye when i first got it.

This meant 2 things happened..

1. the piece of knuckle chipped the paint on the wheelarch

2. I proceeded to double handedly punch myself full force in the chest with the remainder of the breaker bar, fell backwards and nearly knocked myself out!

So yeah i now have a snap-on one.

I have a Halfords 24" one and it's strong enough to take my weight hanging off it or being extended with a scaffold pole.
It was relatively cheap on trade too.



Obviously this is no use to you as Halfords no longer do the 24" bar.

Cheap doesn't always mean bad though. My Halfords kit has been quite troublesome and a £5 socket set I bought on ebay ages ago lasted quite well and only gave up when I was undoing brake to hub bolts by standing on it and jumping up and down
Will be getting better stuff in the future but for just over a 5er it's got to be worth a punt

Haha this.........the thing is by the very nature of what a breaker bar is used for it's a dangerous thing to be snapping, lots of little tools I'll buy cheap but I'd be worried about it snapping when undoing a crank pully or driveshaft, not what you want Smile

My dad has this one and it's decent.
It's had my 22st jumping up and down on it trying to undo a hub nut!
The hub nut and the breaker bar just laughed at me! Undecided

I bought a Draper one 3 years ago for about £8, about 3ft long, its been used for many headbolts, suspension bolts, wheel bolts etc and doesn't show any signs of snapping. There is a very slight bend in it though lol.

I killed a draper one but TBH that was trying to undo wheel nuts that nobody's impact wrench would touch, two of us on the end of 6" scaffold over the breaker just sheared the end off. It was replaced under warranty though, albeit with a bit of a blind eye turned to the scaff bar lol

Presumably you mean a 6' scaffold rather than 6". Can't imagine why it wasn't suitable for that then! lol

Must admit, I am always conscious of the potential for it to snap or slip, as with any tool so try and keep out of the way/keep solid footing etc just in case lol.

Okay just for reference I wont be trying hub nuts with this lol
Going to be fitting coilovers hopefully next weekend and all the bolts are covered in muck,rust etc so just need a bit of help getting the pinch bolts etc cracked off

Holy thread revival.
I finally broke this, after undoing suspension bolts, crank pulley bolts and other bolts the impact wrench couldn't shift it finally snapped after I was jumping up and down on it to undo the seized wheel bolts on the zt. Got my 5er worth for sure

seems a good buy then

i just bost a halfords one, trying to work out if it will be cheaper to buy another online than the fuel/time spent driving over to get it replaced

TBH the thing that worries me with cheap breaker bars is not that I wouldn't get my £5 worth of usage out of them by the time they eventually break, but that when it does break I'll suffer serious injury.

Yes, kind of...whatever it was a 5er and has done a lot of jobs for me without failing. The ZT was apparently just that step too crusty. Wheel bolts looked like they've been dipped in tar then screwed in

Next step is to find the limit of a £10 breaker bar, for science!
