well yesterday it failed again, on a couple of minor things.
cv boot on the drive shaft, gaiter on the steering rack, hazard switch, incorrect light, and rear hand brake.
advisories were, brake pipes and a coolant leak again also bottom ball joint split.
yesterday and today I started to iron out those faults.
I ordered off a second hand drive shaft as its quicker and less of a f*ck on with the cv boot, also ordered off a bottom ball joint,
So that takes care of the two major bits, I have a spare gaiter that the mot tester gave me.
The incorrect light, well last year, I bought two new front lights for the old body as they were getting a little tired.
when I dismantled that car I transferred them over, to this car. But when the mot tester came to set the beam again, he found that it wouldn't set right, Fuckin rimmer bros sold me a left hand drive lamp didn't they! Only found that out due to the glass! So I just put the old unit back in I had off this body and swopped the bulbs over.
so that was another mot failure fixed,
coolant problem, ffs!
Had this problem before with a clip acting the goat, which was here
one of these pipes have been acting the goat, plus air still in the system.
So I added extra clips, to see if that sorts the problem out, all seemed well after that, as I left it to tick over.
Today fun part! centre console!
notice further up in the post where the hazard switch is, at the min, looks well ugly at the min doesn't it.
This morning, I un screwed the front end of it, so it looked a bit like this.
Then me and my mum spent about 2 hours, working on it. To end up with this!
the hazard switch in its OEM surrounding that's now been mounted in place and glued in, That takes care of the hazard switch.
the three gauges, just need rewiring in place and checking again. We worked the pod to get sorted, that's now glued in place.
adjusted and in place
finished job
While I was sorting that out, I gave the car another tick over to see if the coolant problem, came back and so far all is well under the bonnet and in the car! The cab heated up just as quick as the 306 does!
the waterless coolant really does the job! engine runs more happy now too.
Just a matter of the bits coming and doing the handbrake, ( adjusting it again) and it will be back on the road, ready for the gaydon car show!

sorted out a few things today, well stripped and prepped a few things,
Me and my dad were going to put on the drive shaft and gaiter on the rack, We had not hope in hell on doing the two, as the locking nut wouldn't play ball, for the rack, also we couldn't get the drive shaft high enough, so we backed off be for we damaged the seals, so all we manage to do was drop on the replacement ball joint, which I think was the wrong one for the car, looking at the replacement one I bought, then we adjusted the handbrake again. So that fucker hold the car now. As it was taking up to 6 clicks to hold. now we are on 3 at a push!
Going to book the car in to get the two odds and sods done and get him to re test the bastard, then I can move on to the HDI as that's practically out of test! garage has been snowed under with work this week so I couldn't book the car in.

guess what's back on the road after nearly 6 months!
Egg Beater!
With me not going to have the time to sort out the two major jobs, Drive shaft and Gaiter. the mot tester did them for me and passed the car!
So she is now taxed and on the road!!!!
Here are the 1st photos of 2015!!
All in all a very, very fine little car!
worlds a part from the GTa 16v, the front damper upgrade really works, really stable, car is pulling to one side, but that's slowly going a way as the suspension is working again.
I am well chuffed, as its took us 6 months to be back here again, and we are nearly there for gaydon ( metros 35th and 25th birthday)
After the little burn I pulled out some bits I had in storage, ( these were going to go on the red shell)
New side repeaters,
The old ones were nicked and practically dead!
these were practically dropping to bits!
the bulbs had seen better days too!
refreshed with new bulbs and a spanking new brand
repeater
also I have the new door trim too as you can see, the black tape that someone put on the car,
that will be going on, aswell as new Light protectors and the part to of the rover temp thing, and new spot lights.
Then its a case of a service, of front brakes, oil change and coil pack.

Its worlds a part from the 306, This has the speed and the go kart feeling ( that's why I like these) The 306 is like a rolls Royce to it though, but with out the speed.
Also this is a lot easier to work on, as you can get your hands on everything practically.

done a few things today, i did a bit of re routing of the wiring for the centre console, ( hide it) and do away with the OEM rubber gear leaver gaiter, as that was causing a bit of trouble getting 5th gear, making you think it wasn't going into gear.
Ordered off some MGF rear droplinks and i am toying with the idea of buying the poly buses for them too.

my drop links came today, so while I was waiting for my mothers day gift to arrive,
I decided to fit them,
mgf droplinks
mgf ones are smaller the metro gti ones
I had to remove the arb to fit these, as one of the bolts looked like it was going to be a bastard to get off, Took longer to secure the arb back on than it did to swop the droplinks over,
Then I took it for a test drive to see what the crac was, went a long a country road, and it is worlds a part compared to last years car! Very close to the 306 handling. Went into a car park and put a full lock on and did a 360, got a bit of a tripod going on, both sides, but I think I will need slightly stiffer dampers at the front to get a full blown rear wheel lift.
On the way back a driver of a new clio was very impressed, as I had left him standing, him and his mrs was pissing them selves laughing! He said to his mrs, " THATS NO 1.1S! " he was wanting to have a little bit of fun but I just calmed everything down and cruised behind a slow moving car, I made my point anyway. So far we have had a golf gti 14 plater get a shock and now a new clio. Not bad at all for a 24 year old 1.1s!

a couple of days ago, I took this on a 100 mile around trip, to see a mate of mine. What ever was going to go wrong will do, and sure enough things did. My top rad hose seal wasn't sealing at all, in fact that started to fail as I was coming back! Also I had Air in the system still, not much but enough to cause the seal to fail.
So today, I decided to have a look on what the crack is, and reason been is the top rad hose isn't in the proper angle. I took off my dads home made bracket and pushed the top hose back, to the front of the car. I tried to get it as close as I could to how the Diesel metro had it. Upset the coolant system did it not! but after a tick cover and rev, it settled down. Then I took it for a quick 8 mile trip, parked up in a car park. Popped the bonnet, to check if my repair was ok. Took the cap off and Revved the fucker into the redline, so it would push what ever air was in the system out!
After that the car seemed to settle down perfectly. Took it for another blast and came back home and the system was spot on.
I think I will have to top up the front suspension on this, as its a bit un happy, plus I can get the tracking checked and adjusted. Monday I may fit the front discs and pads, and look into fitting the rover accessory, and fit my light protectors too.

its with brentcare, its tpft due to the age of it. Not sure what its putting out, but the engine is a strong unit and pulls hard. Might be about 150 bhp at a guess.

well something interesting for you!
just before xmas I bought these
yellow stuff pads and shaving discs,
so today me and my dad tackled the front droop stops too, while I upgraded the front brakes,
the upgraded hardware!
****ed droop stops,
passenger side, didn't even have one!
the replacement droop stops, ( got these when I bought the rears, they went on the car over nearly 2 years ago.
so we installed these, Took a bit of getting the screws out,
also while my dad was working on the driverside, I decided to fit the new coil pack,
Bit of a f*ck on, due to where it is, as its at the back of the engine and you have to get under the car for that one.
the old coil pack
the replacement that went on the car,
quick start up test, and the engine fired into life with out any smoke at all! also it seems to idle better too!
we haven't had a test yet of the new upgrades, so stick with me!
The car is really coming on stronger now! we are worlds a part from the GTa, this car is what the gta should have been!
next up on the list is the exhaust.

took it for a test drive, and its really, really strong! I pulled over and let my dad have test drive. He was working the car through some of the country roads. It took it with out a bother, in fact the car caught me dad out a couple of times. As he hasn't drove it that much to get to know how it behaves.

started to kick some of the jobs on the snag list, as the weather was for us.
So today me and my mum tackled this horror on the car,
so we removed the black tape, As for some reason this car was missing its lower trims, I do have the GTa lower trims with the red strip on, but its a f*ck on to fit them back on, so they are going to be sold on at gaydon.
Anyway one side had to come from Netherlands the other from rimmor bros,
we let the trims warm up a bit so we could put them on, as one had a bit of a bend in it.
fitted in place,
also another upgrade too, still got the other side to do,
a wind deflector!!
looking miles better already.

getting some miles on this, for Gaydon next month, got a braking problem, but that could be one of the tyres, the mot tester said. As it may have wore the passanger side tyre down more and making the car favour that side.
So he has told me to swop the tyres over to see if that irons it out. Pulls nice and hard mind! Since the coil pack was changed over.

ok not long for gaydon, so I decided to fit the little extras I had sitting,
I bought some mk3 head light protectors, they came from the Netherlands!
the ones I bought from ebay ended up been damaged, so nice replacement ones were bought.
bit of a worry about fitting them, in case you crack them!
next up is the interesting part!
remember a few months ago, I bought my rover temp thing, well today I decided to finish the installation off.
the dash part I already installed months ago,
well I fitted the rest of the system into the car,
put the end on the wire ready
fed the main probe through to the front of the car,
finished off the wiring side of the job,
the little box and the fuse box,
put the metro connector on so it plugs in where my finger is,
switched the car on and did a test,
works!
the little probe in place
Then sorted out another problem, I had a massive air lock in the system, so got the car up to temp and went to a carpark, and took the cap off, and gave the engine some right old stick, which forced what ever air was in out!
That's why you will see the cap off the coolant in some of the photos.
Next up is a good wash, inside out and polish and we are ready for gaydon!
The car will be featured on the metro time line, we will are the 1990 car! So the 1st mk3 metro on the timeline!
Gaydon is holding the Austin metros 35th and Rover metros 25th birthday, so they maybe about a 100 metros there! including the prototype and the last ever one made! ( depending on the weather for the last one)
Will be another mile stone for me!

we have been here in the past with the red one, coming up a year with this car! hard to believe!
got to say though we have had better luck with this one than the last car. The red one should have been the setup and standard this one is now!
but that one got off to a right old bumpy start! and lets just say a lot of money was wasted on things that we didn't even need! no fault of mine or my dads, just shite forum info tbh.
