A Street Sleeper is reborn! THE END - procta - 31-05-2014 well lads since the metro gta 16v shell was going to cost more to fix, and get up to show standards. This little sweet heart popped up for sale on the metro owners club! yes a nice clean metro! that is a year older and hell of lot more solid and its a none sunroof shell! very blue mind! and practically the cross over from the A series metro! yes the interior is blue aswell! check out the poverty spec mirror! also its a and that's staying on the car!!! so the name of the game is to swop the full works over from the gta into this, shell and make a 1.1s vvc. So stick with me on this one and we will have another cracking little metro sleeper again! RE: Street sleeper is reborn - GTI 6 - 31-05-2014 Leave the poverty spec bumpers on it too for proper sleeper effect RE: Street sleeper is reborn - WiNgNuTz - 31-05-2014 Haha, this looks like it could be hilarious fun! Will keep an eye on this with interest! Good luck dude! RE: Street sleeper is reborn - Piggy - 31-05-2014 Loooooove it! RE: Street sleeper is reborn - Kezzieboy - 31-05-2014 Gonna be winning, actually love the colour too! RE: Street sleeper is reborn - procta - 31-05-2014 I am going to fit the gta boot lid as that's got the spoiler and fit the bumpers off it too, as these look a bit damaged sadly. boot lid on the this car is rusty and its got a dint, but part from that its staying as it is, they did a model called the 1.1c sport, so that's what this car is going to be. hence the S I will be fitting the shock mounts and tiding this shell up as its got some surface rust so I want that sorted 1st. then I will put my stuff on, it will be a matter of dropping the frames off and swopping over, fuel system and electronics. as this car is a carb! I am going leave the interior a lone as its much better, and I think my gta one has seen better days, I will put the red belts on as those are rare to get hold of and I will swop the side strip rubbers over, as those are f*cking hard to get! They are missing on the doors on this one, plus one is scuffed badly. Gta ones are spot on. I love them in blue Kezzie, the interior is a dark blue that was from the mk2 metros! So its a cross over car. RE: Street sleeper is reborn - RetroPug - 31-05-2014 This will be such a hilariously brilliant car once it is done! I will be leaving the 1.1s badge on, the gta 16v is going to be retired a long with the gtas reg too, ( hang that on me wall) as it was a proper gta 16v) RE: Street sleeper is reborn - thebluepearl - 01-06-2014 my brother used to have a metro gti, was one of the lowest recorded millage metro gti's in england, on a H plate had 20k genuine miles he loved it so will have to show him this thread RE: Street sleeper is reborn - procta - 01-06-2014 well to day I did a bit of swopping over, and checking. A few things that are better on the gta will be swopped over tomorrow, as there is few bits on here that need to be swopped. The car has had welding done before on a seatbelt mount, which is common anyway. part from that its a good one! Anyway I made a start, so lets go! the very small metro rear view mirror has been was swopped over from the gta, which had the mgf rear view mirror fitted, its bigger and has extra lights. replacement mirror installed, needs wiring in, but that will have to wait until the car loom is switched over. next up was the very basic hand brake cover and cloth matts. I swopped the matts for the rubber ones, off the gta and the mgf handbrake handle also the metro dash mat, this car didn't have one the swopped bits also replaced a few bits of knackered trim too, robbed from the GTa, also looked at the rear, now this is where the changes are going to take place 1st, the metro rear lamps, ( orange jobbies) swopped for the R100 ones off the GTA the knackered parcel shelf swopped over for my new one I just bought! I did swop the little rubber thing over too, the boot carpet I swopped that for the gta one, also I noticed an mot failure, the brake and clutch pedal rubbers were f*cked, so I swopped mine off the gta, I didn't bother with a photo of that, as it wasn't that interesting, also swopped my new wiper blades over too, old new check out the sweet egg beat to be replaced also the washer and coolant bottles that are miles better than the gtas! A few other bits to swop over, but its a start and a half mind! RE: Street sleeper is reborn - procta - 01-06-2014 just ordered replacement bottom ball joints and track rod ends. so I can have them fitted on to the replacement subframe. then its a case of bolting the full works over to this car. also ordered off a new handbrake cable and rear shoes after the failure we had. RE: Street sleeper is reborn - procta - 02-06-2014 right here is todays little bit progress, not much but still. As this car has a few things that are damaged and I have good items on the gta. lets start off with swopping over the boot stuff, With me removing the seat belts from the gta, I removed and swopped over the tool kit and spare wheel over, As this one has a skinny and the tool kit looks a bit ****ed, Well the wheel brace is. Now I found that there are some major changes, with the gta/gti regarding some bits to the standard cars, the spare wheel securing bolt. the standard ones are smaller as the wheel is thin, compared to the wider wheel. luckly I took it off the gta and swopped it over. then I fitted the boot light too, as this little car didn't have one, so that's now robbed off the gta, ( it will be wired in when I swop the looms over) the ash tray took out of a rear side trim. to go into here, I swopped over my sunvisors as the ones on this car are ****ed, No photos as you cannot really tell anyway. those who followed to 1st metro thread, will remember me putting a new bonnet release cable on, so I swopped that over onto this one then I swopped over one of the front lights, as one looked tired and with me just buying new ones! I may just swop over the passenger side, to keep things looking more cleaner, but today has been mostly removing bits and pieces from the gta, I was going to start fitting in the seat belts but I want to give them a good clean. I may start removing the electronics tomorrow from the gta, I will take one last video of the gta running before it powered off for good. If I can I will post in on the other thread. But we are making very quick progress! RE: Street sleeper is reborn - Eeyore - 02-06-2014 Some good progress. Interesting to see how this comes along. Not too keen on the colour as i preferred the red! RE: Street sleeper is reborn - Mattcheese31 - 02-06-2014 nice one for keeping it alive . . .you wouldn't have owt' to talk about mind if you didn't . . x RE: Street sleeper is reborn - procta - 02-06-2014 (02-06-2014, 06:52 PM)SRowell Wrote: Some good progress. I wonder if its going to be as fast as the red one, as I think that makes part of the speed, sad thing rowell, the red one was going to be a right bastard to match paint wise, while this one seems a better match and the paint is a lot better condition wise . just have to wait and see who it pans out, (02-06-2014, 07:02 PM)Mattcheese31 Wrote: nice one for keeping it alive . . .you wouldn't have owt' to talk about mind if you didn't . . x well it is part of the family x RE: Street sleeper is reborn - procta - 03-06-2014 right lads, another update. turn the clock back to 2008 when we got the red one and you will remember when I put the replacement loom in. sadly I have had to pull the plug on the gta now, so the car isn't a working one anymore. As today I have been removing the full car electricals. so that I can transfer them to the new metro. As that one is a carb and has the old metro electricals in. the gta guttard of its wiring! the new metro dash as it is at the min, ready to be removed and the electricals dropped in. swopped over my bit dash trim, blue black installed my coin holders too, easier to do while the dash is in bits, un plugged the choke cable system, and put the rubber grommet that the gta had there, ( wonder if the lead will go on the vvc for the crack) but before I went any further, I took some time in tidying the gta loom and getting rid of some redundant wires, also it was a birds nest in some areas, so I have gave it a right old tidy up and its much, much better! also blanked off the radio speaker system and removed my mgf gauge wire I installed in round one, years ago. I don't need it as I have another gauge loom anyway for that off the car. The old loom removed from the car new one ready to go, now the putting it back together, the alarm system was like the gta on this, ( none existant) so I have installed that starting of the fitting, now after seeing how this one was, I now know what I did wrong with the gta, so I have put the loom back in exactly how it should be! during just have to finish off tomorrow, as I have started to feed it all through the car front end and my interior light. I have not long got back in as I ran out of light and the it was starting to rain! so I stopped with the photos of progress, as I wanted to really crack on, I will show you all how far I have got! RE: Street sleeper is reborn - mr_fish - 04-06-2014 fair play to that wiring saga! Really is a bit of a reshell! Keep the pictures coming...always interested to see the updates. RE: Street sleeper is reborn - THE_Liam - 04-06-2014 That looks really bloody clean, almost a shame to VVC it! If you don't want that tape player I'll have it RE: Street sleeper is reborn - Piggy - 04-06-2014 looking good man! I prefer the orange rear lights...more retro! I do hope you keep the exterior very original...it will be so much more win! RE: Street sleeper is reborn - Tom - 04-06-2014 Anyone else read street sweeper? If you don't want that tape player I'll have it if you can find a radio code for it, as it didn't have one with the car, or you just want it for show? its yours like, as I have took it out and popped my radio blanking system back in. (04-06-2014, 10:54 AM)Piggy Wrote: looking good man! id love to have kept it a bit more original but the lens I think are past it, the bumpers I know are damaged. my gta ones are better con. but will get painted up in the same blue. As it needs abit of bodywork here and there but that's it! (04-06-2014, 11:23 AM)Tom Wrote: Anyone else read street sweeper? nah just you tom, I want this to be as tidy as your 205 is! RE: Street sleeper is reborn - THE_Liam - 04-06-2014 Does it need a code buddy? Also, can I talk you into putting Superlites on this? That would look so amazing, although it would detract from the sleeper angle.... RE: Street sleeper is reborn - procta - 04-06-2014 (04-06-2014, 07:13 PM)THE_Liam Wrote: Does it need a code buddy? Also, can I talk you into putting Superlites on this? That would look so amazing, although it would detract from the sleeper angle.... yeah it will do sadly from what the last owner said. I can have a check of the paper work, but who is to say this is the original radio, as I found that some one has been at the doors speaker wise. if you want to do some digging wise in radio code by pass, then go for it. I have the radio here for you! right today while it was pissing down with rain on and off, I decided to finish off round one, I need to swop over the boot lid wiring from my gta, to make the boot light work, but that will happen when I swop the locks over, as that's the next step now and glass. so this is where I left off last night. so continued from there, and made sure all was right with the world. fuse box was installed then the dash was put back on the car, I then moved on to the rear of the car, and I had a bit of a f*ck on as the panels on this car are rived on, and I wasn't keen on drilling, as I don't think we have the drill bits. so no photos of that, ( nothing really to see there) then I switched back to the front of the car and fitted back the steering wheel and a few odds and sods. the gta clocks with rev counter ( as that has the more miles an hour on and a worthly upgrade away) the old one that will be gutted for its bulbs the radio blank back in place and I need to see if I have choke blank grommet for the choke system, also I am going to place the hazard switch on my console on the gauges or put it on the cowling. I did a test and all works spot on! I need to change a few things over for the door wise but we practically have a working car again! still got a few things to do, but I think its a case of gutting the gta of everything now, as I want to swop the locks and glass over, and make a start on pre vvc stuff. RE: Street sleeper is reborn - RetroPug - 04-06-2014 Good progress! RE: Street sleeper is reborn - 7057sam - 05-06-2014 Looks very clean love what you've done with it so far RE: Street sleeper is reborn - THE_Liam - 05-06-2014 I'm sure someone in Leeds market would be able to decode it for me, I'll give you a shout next time I'm up your way, thanks man. RE: Street sleeper is reborn - procta - 05-06-2014 done more today, mainly switching over the locks and door handle ( but I think I will buy a new one tbh once the car is up and running) I have a few photos of progress, nothing really major. did a lot of stripping from the gta, ( boot lid area) so its a case of starting to strip off more engine bay wise tomorrow, and front end. I am going to hire an engine hoist to lift up the front ends of the cars, so we can just wheel the full running gears, and switch them over, then its a case of doing the arse end of both cars. if I keep going the way I am, we may be back up and running shortly! RE: Street sleeper is reborn - procta - 05-06-2014 right did a bit more today, that was getting the engine bay wiring sorted, and a the horn swopped over, as I have the later one on the car. before, also some f*cking faggot put a torx bolt in on the batter tray to secure the battery down! it did that alright! I ended up having to badly damage the battery! some mechanics man! anyway progress, my ecu bracket installed also the horn and a few other bits and pieces put into place, then I did a bit of swopping around of the locks door before it was stripped, my door light switch, that is swopped over as I know these work. door stripped gti glass ready to go in ( what a f*ck on that was!) the old one, put the door back together with the replacement lock, I think the car has had new locks on in the past, but I have a new set anyway I put on the gta last year, so that's getting installed. i swopped over the door handle as this was damaged but i think i will buy two new ones i think. also the second mod! to this also today i stripped the gta boot lid of everything from it, so it can all be fitted to into this. as i have the boot light switch and new boot lock. so tomorrow its a case of swopping over the electrical bits and then making a start on the gta front end, ( going to start to dismantle and drain coolant) so i have more gutting to do and less putting for the min. RE: Street sleeper is reborn - procta - 06-06-2014 well today, I have been mainly stripping more off the gta, the rear end part, so that I can drop the frame down and swop it over, ( undoing bits that hold the frame to the floor, and removed the rear rear arb brackets. then I made a start in fitting the wiring into my boot lid of my 1.1s from the gta, still got that to finish, My dad came in and said, shall we do the rest of the glass? I said yeah lets go for it. So we fitted the rest of the gti glass, like we fitted in the gta a few years ago. hard to tell but I will try and get a better photo. also this happened today, from this to this! that's the highlight of the day! also I got shat on by a seagull or a bird and the gta not much left of that car now breaks my heart after spending 6 years of building that car! RE: Street sleeper is reborn - Mattcheese31 - 07-06-2014 good work fella . . .what's with the torx in the battery? . . .why you no just take it out? . . |
