Kezzers diablo gti6
#1
Every since I picked up my first 306 I always dreamed of having a 306gti6 but in them days it was just a pipe dream but after my very clean 106gti was written off a month or so ago I decided to see if to help the pain of loosing it , I could finally get a gti6 , with insurance quotes saying yes it was time to find one .
Using Facebook I searched and found one that was getting a top end rebuild and would come with a full mot , and as my main worry on them was the Cambelt and headgasket I was pretty much drawn in . It was also diablo which was the colour of my 2nd 306 which was the first car I modified so it seemed fitting .
I was incredibly excited could not wait to go see it , seemed perfect as it was suppose to be a get in and drive no issues car .

I picked it up a week ago today and that was where a few things started to dampen my spirits , firstly the car had a weird lack of power for a few mins , revved the car up it would just go flat and needed the clutch dropping and revving and it would come to life again , it would do this a few times but then it sorts itself out and drives fine. I was told a new coilpack would cure this . I drove the car somewhat 70miles and tbh it was quite nice , I didn't give it the full beans due to the head not long being done etc but it certainly impressed . Just as I got about 6-8miles away from home decided to pull in as my mate who brought me wanted a quick toilet break , upon pulling in to a car park the driver side ball joint fell out and the car landed on the wheel Sad , pretty scary and I'm was very gutted

Luckily I have aa membership and despite a long mess around and been out in the cold till 3.30am , the car was recovered to my mates garage , not the start I had hoped for .

So first jobs where to get some new pinch bolts (replaced both) got the driveshaft all sealed back up and ordered a new coilpack . Unfortunaly my luck wasn't about to change the coilpack did nothing to the cars weird issue . To make matters worse the car then decided its fuel pump doesn't want to work and it would do nothing , I had been working 3 days solid after I bought it and had not even seen the car I daylight at this point , finally I got a day off a went down to see the car , I was pretty down about it tbh , waited along time for one and wasn't what I hoped for at all . I spend a entire day on it and cleaned up some earths changed the thermistor sensor as it was a fault code we found , changed the fuel relay and cleaned up a few sensors also.
To my delight the car started first time after I had done all this but still had this weird misfire/power loss issue , after using the car for a few days I have managed to get more info on this issue
Basically when the car is started from clap cold it runs fine no issues , if the car is stopped and then re used before it cools down then sometimes (not every time) it develops this issue for a few mins and sorts itself out , now when the car runs properly it's great so much grunt .
However if I'm being 100% honest the car as a whole has disappointed me , the beam in cambered , rear brakes where useless front ones also need changing , wipers needed changing also , heater matrix was leaking so has been bypassed I knew about this so no issue , a few bits that I'm happy to sort are bodywork , oil temp gauge needs sorting , one of the indicators falls out and doesn't work , clock needs some new bulbs etc .
Now I have a big heart and this car had been sat for 2 years before the engine work and nobody has really loved it In That time .
This is where I feel the car has become very lucky because this thing will be looking great by the time I'm done, just want to sort that strange issue out first .

So other than the few bits stated above I've done a few bits more to her aswel first I gave it a wash , I still need to give it a full detail and clean inside but here is a pic or two
[Image: 20150310_090153_zpsbmjnrskh.jpg]

I've ordered some wind deflectors , and new indicators , I've changed the wipers for some nice Bosch areo blades , I've got new front discs and pads and today I changed the rear brakes so here is a few before amd afters

And that's that plenty more to come hopefully I can get to the bottom of the main issue but that's how this story begins .

Sounds like the car now has a much kinder owner than it deserves, at least you know everything on it will be new by the time you've finished.

Cheers bud , well a small update after changing the front brakes I got hit with more bad luck one of the sliders seized on the passenger side front and half locked the brakes on so I had to drive it 9 miles with smoking brakes . Did not use it yesterday as I had work all day so (luckily still have the hire car from the 106 claim still ongoing) so used that and a mate of mine came down to sort it and for now it seems fine. Brake wise anyway

Check the pads again that cant of been good lol how did you mange to get pads in,caliper on? Always check the sliders are free and check wheels spin freely after doing brakes etc etc
You says its been sat for a while????

Im sure there will be lots of bits need doing lol sorry to be bearer of bad news, seems you need to nurture and care alot for these cars keep ontop of the bits otherwise they build up quick! !!
Hopefully its not to bad fingers crossed for you!!

The sliders are pretty simple to replace mate; it looks like those brakes have been off and cleaned recently?
If so, i'd be inclined to whip the brakes off and replace the sliders; knowing that there's not going to be any seized lines or nipples.

A nice project mate, stick to it! Car has a lovely height also Smile

I took the brakes off mate and painted them up etc and new pads and discs , and it's been sorted now just snagged the pad sensor so the light comes on when braking but no big deal car stops a hell of a lot better now with fresh discs and pads all round .
A bit more crap news as the indicators had been bodged in one of the fell out the other day , luckily I noticed all clips had snapped and we're loose and bonded in in ordered a new set so should have them tomorrow, also the car is leaking from the ariel haha so that will need sealing up .
Plus points wind deflectors arrived will have them on tomorrow
Purchased some uprated gear linkages and a short shift to shorten the horrible long throws
New fresh indicator housings also should be on tomorrow
And also snapped up a omp strut brace for a bargain so should have that on soon
Also got a coilpack cover as currently doesn't have one
And I purchased so carpet stain removal foam and some carpet fresher foam aswel as some nice air fresheners to get rid of the oily and farm like smelling interior .
Will get more pics of before and afters tomorrow when I am off

So
today was a good day for the gti6 I will start with a few pics of the bay , interior and some exterior issues I have so you all have an idea of the starting point

Ok so engine bay
[Image: 20150318_112642_zpsvkvvlnhj.jpg][Image: 20150318_112651_zpszmltz390.jpg]

The interior which stunk of oil and like a farm , was filthy and needed a serious going over
[Image: 20150318_113025_zpst24wxuaf.jpg]

And just a few of some exterior issues
[Image: 20150318_112928_zps9zoj6t8v.jpg]
The side skirts in general are poor a lot of flaking paint on both sides and that graze as shown

Abit hard to see but there is a dint and the fact Steve wonder painted that quarter as it has a terrible finish

Have re bent the wing back after the ball joint incident but needs replacing

A few other bits that I have no photos of are the front end is absolutely battered in stone chips everything needs a fresh coat of paint

I guess you could say it had being de-wipered haha .

Ok so let's get to today's efforts , firstly I spent 2 hours on the interior it now smells great and doesn't look half bad either .
The boot carpet is stained but is a lot better than at the start I will get a gti boot mat

So gave the engine bay a small clean , cleaned up the inlet a tad and put new coilpack cover on
[Image: 20150318_172800_zpsveszo0pe.jpg]

I de-wipered it correctly

And then the fact the clock did not work annoyed me so I had to fix that also Smile
[Image: 20150318_200327_zps4l1ptvis.jpg]

Much more to come.
Got some bits actually in the post which include
Strut brace
Fresh indicator housings

It has a new fuel filter an uprated 440 fuel pump and it was only for 2 mins when started warm then it was fine it's not a fuel related issue
And all depends hopefully make one of them

So after a busy weekend at work I've got a few spare days so it was front bumper off , morrettes out and grill off , the morrettes where bodged together and the slam panel was not correctly fitted to the car , and due to the screws just spinning the slam panel has had to be left on the bumper but no big deal.

So here are some pics of the bumper and the outrageous amount of stone chips in it haha
[Image: 20150323_202650_zps7zgvwitk.jpg]

grill wasn't too bad but needs a freshen up
[Image: 20150323_202734_zpsdup1lspd.jpg]

Morrettes will be going a nice high gloss.black
[Image: 20150323_202725_zpsqhua1zya.jpg]

so managed to get lights ready for primer tomorrow morning
[Image: 20150323_212531_zpse0yud7au.jpg]

grill is also ready for some primer
[Image: 20150323_214326_zpsrv0dolxv.jpg]

and after battling hard I got half way with the bumper so early start tomorrow and I will.have it sorted
