Another thing too, Fiats don't tend to last long either, two cars you lads have mentioned have practically died out! well before their times sadly.

That's probably because they don't corrode so much as actually dissolve in water. lmao

what power were they kicking out? Also I was told that fiat engines don't last that long at all,
My old scrappy had about 30 puntos in with most of the engines f*cked.

those are my favourite citroen,  I think there are only two of those left in sunderland sadly, one white and one a gun metal grey. Sadly practical classics and other car classic mags don't to write ups on these, maybe the odd article on how to service the suspension, but that's it.  Shite loads of stories about minis, mozzy minors, mgbs. But they will feature an MX5 and a Audi TT, those are not classics!

Don't know if anyone remembers this I posted earlier in the thread. Just after throwing a 2.0 16v Clio engine into it lol.

First half of the video is the old 1.7 then the second half the new Clio lump. Still loads to do!

i havent seen many mk1 and early mk2 clios, the fiestas of that era too, those have gone, the last generation of the ford escort, the early mondao, even the Granada has vanished too.
that's from my area,
Every car you mentioned there I see daily here in menorca, the Spanish cannot afford new cars there are so many old cars here, I've just sold my 1982 mk1 feista with only 60k on it. Lol

The other problem with the UK is that we heavily salt our roads so a lot of these cars require a lot of attention if they're to avoid corroding to bits!

You've stopped seeing anything much really older than the new reg system. In particular I miss Vauxhall Novas, Rover Metros, Ford Sierras, etc

I've got at least 3 Sierras and 7 Novas I see on a regular basis near me :-)

Love Sierras

speaking of novas, i walked passed one last night, i remember it from years ago, as it was the only K plater one about, has steelies on now instead of alloys. so looks like its been dropped back to OEM spec.

I tried to get a photo of it last night but someone was knocking about, so I thought better of it.

What I have noticed is that Nova's seem to have finally escaped the Max Power image that they were tarnished with for many years, and of the few that you still see, they largely seem to be either cherished/restored standard looking examples or ones that are tastefully modified from a performance point of view.

I can't remember the last time I saw one with a gash Jap-style bodykit and awful oversized wheels like you would have found ten a penny a decade ago. That's no bad thing of course!

There's a nice late GTE in white that I occasionally see locally that's very tidy ThumbsUp

this white one had well over sized wheels about 10 years ago when I last saw it. I think it had some after market Vauxhall badge that was on the vectras.
but looks like its all gone back to oem, as it looked very standard now, with steelies and the nova grill.

here is a video of one of sunderlands roads, back in 1985. now name some of the cars in that video if you can.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rPQ7goOszmE

the same area now where this is filmed in, has changed. The roads the same but the buildings have gone now,

Seems strange seeing cars that would have been no more than a couple of years old in that video which are bordering on extinct nowadays Sad

What's saddening in many ways is seeing just how common/popular BL and Rover were back then and then thinking that 20 years later they were no more. Reasons are plentiful and well-documented of course, but still sad to see.

The other thing you immediately notice is the almost complete absence of "premium" German cars on British roads back then, compared to now when seemingly every other car you see on the motorway is an Audi, BMW or Merc.
