This thread is a copy of another thread i have somewhere, but thought i'd get round to sharing it here aswell.
Wow, a new project from me... Back on the road so gotta look smart!
I've picked up a bargain 405... £220 needing a steering rack gaitor/bellow, fuel pump re-fitting and a new cambelt as it'd been cut to remove the pump. What's better is I ended up getting all these bits for nothing after ECP decided to give me a credit for something ages ago!
I had this car in for some work last year after the turbo popped causing the engine to blow. Camshaft snapped, conrod blew. Was then fitted with a 60k ish replacement engine with bosch and t2, cambelt, waterpump etc.
So, a bargain considering! Just gotta whack the steering rack gaitor on and I've got a roadworthy 405 with Full service history and a 60k ish engine fitted last year.
Yesterday I re-fitted the bosch and gave the engine a good clean up as it was absoloutely caked with veg oil (and I mean the entire engine, thick, sticky smelly veg). The rest of the bay also got a clean and the exterior also got a truckwash because... Veg all over the back end.
First ever pics:

Today, I had a delayed customer and a spare hour this morning, so whipped the torsion bars out, cleaned up the splines and set the ride height to somewhere that resembles 'standard' and not 'jacked up.
Spotted a very bad, perished flexi brake pipe on the rear beam which is otherwise invisible to MOT testers. So, i've ordered in a pair of replacement flexi's which i'll crack on with when I fit the replacement lower arm bushes (one side advised on MOT) and do the steering rack bellow.
The interior is pretty clean, except the drivers seat doesn't match the rest of the seats, there was a second hand seat fitted last year as the original was broken and wouldn't go through the MOT. Funny enough.... i still have that broken seat in the workshop so i'll get it welded up and bung it back in
Looking at the front shocks, they look to be identical in spring pan / width etc, but they look about an inch and a half longer between the hub and bottom spring pan. I might fit some 306 shocks/springs and see if the front end sits any better.

I would guess he is meaning a modified Bosch VE pump with 11mm transit internals amongst other things!

Maybe a bit of both, definately daily, sometimes fun. Although there's only so much fun you can have when you're briving a barge.

Used to rock round in a NAD 405 - was uber fun and despite being a 'barge' it kept up with my missus' quiksilver! IIRC they weigh less than 306s!
I'm just patiently waiting for the combined moment when I have about a grand in the bank and nice Diablo Exec TD turns up.. ahhh!

Hey guys, hope everyone's well?
Not been online for a while, been absoloutely off my feet, my website even went down (bandwith issues) and i didn't notice!
Well, to carry on from the last post, and update the thread, quite a bit (actually) the car passed it's MOT with flying colours, once it had the MOT i had the tracking done.
The other day I had a visit from KwiK, who i've struck a deal with on these wheels which i'm now running.
So, the ride height, that just looks epicly shit. So after a phonecall and the go-ahead I got round to LOWERING the car. Capital lowering, it was needed!
Now, i wasn't going to even entertain the idea of looking for lowering springs for this. So what i did was use a pair of GTi6 shocks and some -35mm apex springs from a HDi. The shocks themselves give an extra inch drop.
405 v GTi6 shocks.
Apex -35mm v Standard 405
The end result... -70mm front and Torsion bar to -80mm.
Whilst doing the rear i noticed a wheel cylinder was leaking so got a pair of them and fitted them in under 10mins. Loving the brand spanker rear brakes that came with the brakes. Could do with new shoes on this side though.
And some general picture whoring.
Thanks

Noooooo, one tooth higher is the same as the first pic of the new wheels. Plus I refuse to lower/raise cars the 'click' way. Do it properly the first time (pull bars out, clean, grease, re-fit) and you can do it to whatever height you want. Usually increments of 5mm is what I do.
There's shit loads of arch room and even room for 15mm spacers all round. It'd be rude not too. Rear has the potential of another 40mm lower and front another 20mm
I need a 'Go Low, Go Slow' sticker, although this beast is far from slow, especially as it weighs 1200kg.lighter than most 306's.

I thought it was lighter than that, the only 306s over 1200kg are the estates, the cabbys and the GTi6s
IIRC a 3dr DT is about 1100kg and a HDi DTurbo is 1150kg
