an upgrade alternator adjuster for a mgf,
and a nice stainless steel coolant cap cover, for a lotus or mgf.
I did get a lotus sticker to go on it, but left it off, what you lads think? should I fit it?

fired this over again today for about 20 mins, started 1st time! Engine was bit smokey due to the car been sitting for a few weeks, So today I thought right while its off the road, I am going to do the waterless conversion, well make a start on it, The engine had an air lock, ( metros are not keen on been topped up with coolant, as it upsets the coolant system, and gives them an air lock, so you got to bleed it a bit)
so what I did was power the car off and set the heater to hot and the heater system open.
then Dropped the bottom hose going to the block and rad, and also the one going to the heater matrix.

left the cap off so I can let the remaining coolant vamp rate out of the engine.
ordered off a new pressure cap and a new coil pack, as I noticed the idle was a bit hit and miss, ( coil pack is an old unit, never been changed)
got new sensors on the water elbow to go on too, so we have to wait a few days for the full lot to drain off and dry.
also I won a passanger side sill too from ebay so that's been kept for a spare.

my sills came two days ago, so its a matter now of saving and booking it in for the repairs!
also two new things came,
my coolant pressure cap and my new coil pack.

right today, I managed to make a start on the waterless coolant, ( still more to do mind so stick with me on this one)

shopping list as follows, and why I bought these,
the two new sensors blue for the dash and brown the ECU senor/mpi fan system ( this one kicks in my front mounted fan)
also a new pressure cap as the old one I think maybe on its last legs.
Also with the sensors, the ends looked very shocking off the water, so the ecu isn't really getting a decent reading. .

right moving on, I had to remove my expansion tank as there was still some water left in it, so I took the 3 pipes off and drained the remaining water out, rinsed the shite out of it, that came from the pipes.
so that's now back on
[Image: 2015-01-02151252_zps4b1521d8.jpg]

I made a start down here, on the water elbow, where the sensors are.

brown sensor for the ecu, ready to be swopped over
[Image: 2015-01-02151625_zps6df0a64d.jpg]

the blue one for the clocks
[Image: 2015-01-02152150_zps3faed59b.jpg]

Now the brown one can make the car run like a bag of shite if sensor is dirty.
The blue one will give a false reading, happened to me before, I thought I had major problems!
so with those two out, and the remaining water dried off.
I installed the two new sensors, I will have to re wire my after market temp gauge, as the blue wire has come off!

then I started to put the pipes back into place again and double checked that they were all tight.
Two were a bit of a fiddle to put back on, but we got there.

my old cap, vs new
[Image: 2015-01-02155441_zps72b57e05.jpg]

the car ready to receive the new waterless coolant,.

topped it right up and started the engine, so that I could let the pump take the new stuff around, also blowers on and heater on hot.
took a bit of a time to get it to burp, as these cars hate coolant changes! they air lock like hell!
so it was trying to chuck the coolant out, I kept releasing the pressure and letting the air out. squeezing the pipes around the engine bay, and we are starting to get hot air in the cab. Still more to come as I think the rad has an air lock in it,
The car seems a lot more happier with the new coolant and when it was up to temp it, stayed there and didn't move, in fact it was like it was been driven.
More to come tomorrow as i ran out of light and plus i want to let the coolant settle. So far its good shit!

Did you not need to flush the system with a special water coolant flush first??

you can, as I read about it, they also said if the coolant is drained off and left to dry out, then the prep stuff isn't required.
So I drained the full works and let it dry, I didn't add any coolant at all to the water, when I reshelled it. As I was planning on switching to this stuff. Once I knew all was ok.

got my wind deflectors, but they are different from the 306 ones in fitting, so that looks like it could be a job and half to do.
I get paid too, so I will be seeing what the budget I have spare so I can get this back on the road! got some bits I want to put on it afterwards, ( new pads, and coil pack.) I might even swop the rear droplinks over to mgf units. but a different type and change the disks over to what I have on the 306.

That engine looks the mutz nutz in there!! I love it.

Dumb question for ya, what is a waterless conversion and what are the benefits of it?
I thought straight coolant was coolant lol

As always bud, very inspiring. That doesn't sound like a bad price for all the welding.

Make sure to post pictures of the completed work :-)

Would love to run shot gun in this weapon.

I understand it's almost impossible to find bits, but that is one rare car with an even rarer conversion.

As always, will be watching this thread! Keep up the good work

just sit tight pal, photos of before and after will be here with in the month fingers crossed, and hopefully another factory extra will be installed, that I found a couple of months back. got some wind deflectors to go on too, but I am un sure about these ones compared to the 306 ones.
A few people I know would love to run shot gun too, A mate of mine called it the badass rover.
I am always on the bay of E looking for odds and sods for this, like the rev counter there, I checked mine against the clocks of a Gti, and I may have a rare set of clocks, rev counter wise, as this one seems different to the GTi one listed. So I think I will give the rev counter replacement the elbow.
Welding wise, the garage that mot it, is a insurance works, the lads who are repairing the car works for them, They did keep their little business on the side going, when things went down.
The welder graham, said Andy if you had booked this into where it go its test, you would have been looking at about 1500 quids worth of work! So technically I am getting the car sorted of peanuts compared to that, and I have even sorted the panels too for the car.

a little update, I called in to see how egg beater is getting on,

had a bit of a chat with the lads, and he walked me through the repairs on the car,
All the welding is done and just waiting painting now,

it looks very, very good!  there were some nightmares, the inner arch ( that the mot tester failed) wasn't even there!
the lad had to use all of the replacement panel to reconstruct the inner and outer arch lip.
it will require new rear quarters to be fair to make it a proper good job, that way they could really go to town with the repairs, ( I will need to save for that one)
the floors were just simple little repairs, in fact the lads said the tester shouldn't really have failed it on two areas. As they were grommet holes.

So here are the work in progress photos, But I will show you what it was like before, also one extra that was going to go on the gta.

hard to see on this photo, but look one the sides of the engine is, you will see the inner wings that pop out, sort of a triangle shapes. There is a hole on each side, for the head of the dampers to slot through, on the gtis, there is plate that goes over the hole for added strength. basically stops the damper going through the front inner wings.

here are the two brackets been added, so I can now fit front dampers to the car, so that I can now push on from the gta 16v setup to the gti setup. ( just need to add dampers to the front)
They have to be brush painted in, as its going to be a bastard to spray in. But you wont see them anyway. As they are hidden.

just need paint and we are away!! so hopefully I can start putting the car back together again! The progress on with 2015s upgrades and changes.
Still got some but not much, but we are very close!

I thought from what you've said it was going to be way worse than that! Are you going to make sure you've prevented the rest of the car from following those bits soon?
I know it's a sleeper but have you considered a half cage? I bet that things no slouch and there's a reason they stopped producing the IIRC?
