Brake lights not working
#1
All brake lights are not working. Just changed the switch and still no joy. What can it be? Which fuse is it? As all 3 are out but taillights still work fine.

LED bulbs so there ok, even the top has stopped. Where is the earth for the lights? All other work fine, well indicators anyway. Reverse lights have not worked for while but thats due to a bad wire in the enginebay fusebox

Have you got a multimeter? test the red and brown plug under the heater motor, earth one end of the multi meter and test each wire untill you find the one(may be two) for the brake lights, then you know where to start looking

Just because there led bulbs doesn't mean they are fine. The can still blow.
Sounds to me like a fuse or broken wire. Can't help with what fuse it is but just check them all.

changed the switch?? <-- which switch may this be?

I'm going to say its fuse related, rare to be a broken wire, unless the earth has slipped...

just follow the yellow taped wire! <-- sang in the style of yellow brick road.

Whats a bloody arse. I turned out to be the fuse, Also the same fuse for the reverse lights, abs pump and brake level sensor. Which all stopped working months ago, then started working for abit after the remap then broke again, but the brakelights only stopped working after sunday last week??

High level does not work now however which it did before. I hate french.....

im pretty sure the brake lights don't have a "swicth" which is that easily changeable - what im saying is, surely its a LOt more logical to check the easy signs and areas such as fuse and connections, before changing switches :|

Yes they do, its on the pedal, what did you think made them come on when you braked? lol

It is also a common fault but your right in what your saying, fuses would have been my first port of call!

Lol, why'd you ask then, smart-arse. Tongue It would be more logical to check fuses first, yes, but he's already changed the switch so no point in remonstrating now.

Bump this!

My brake lights just stopped working. Tails, indicators and reverse are fine.

Which fuse are they on? And is there a guide for changing the switch?

Mine stopped working a couple of days ago, less than 2 weeks before the mot is due. Dodgy Bloody hands are too big to reach mine without a whole lot of pain, thinking i might just take the dash out.... Or, get the other car put back together sharpish and mot that instead... Votes?

Haha my 'wound' is still healing from this and it was 2 bloody weeks ago now!

I reckon if you were crafty you could line the hole with gaffa tape so it wasn't so sharp, may be an idea? Certainly what I would do if I was doing another one!

Switch is probably working intermittantly. It has a small spring in it which operates a push to break circuit iirc. When I removed mine it was absolutely buggered and wouldn't extend to it's 'closed' position. If that makes sense.
