Well, nothing much to say about this. Tape player is playing up a bit so that's getting sent off for a refurb, tape collection is ever growing. I've been offered a swap for a Lexus LS400 which I'm very tempted by especially considering the mpg on this thing wouldn't be far worse than the Lexus...

I am tempted. He can't insure it anymore because of points, its doubled his renewal. He says round town he gets about 20mpg and on a run about 30mpg but I'm sceptical of that in a 4 litre automatic V8 that weighs 2 tons. That's not noticeably worse than the Benz.

Thing is, I'm still loving the Benz. Its slow, incredibly thirsty, a bad colour and totally impractical but it's just a nice place to be. I look forward to driving it...

4 litre v8 why you questioning it? Think of the noise!

Its the complexity that scares me. The Benz is simple, manual, 4-pot with K-Jetronic, distributor, most things are manual. Imagine if the gearbox went on the Lexus. Or the head gaskets. Or the cambelt. Which costs £800 to have done.

Not as good as this one I reckon.

Thanks man. Those P38 RRs are horrifically complex though, and thirsty. My mate has a 4 litre petrol and its a beautiful drive, but its had to have £2000 spent on the suspension alone, and the best I've managed driving it was to Keswick and back 4 up with camping gear, 21mpg lol

I'm not looking to get rid, but people keep offering me swaps or money for it. Had a firm offer of £1000 and an E36 compact worth £500ish last week!

My uncle had an E reg 190E company car, and by the time he swapped it for a 230E it had done over 300,000 miles. Metallic gold though so not quite as classy as the retro brown...

Still massively happy with this, but it may have some head gasket issues - very, very tempted to get rid and get a 2.6 auto lol

the 2.6 isn't that impressive, my old man had a 2.6 manual with factory fitted cosworth kit and suspension fitted, had it from new and swapped it for some carpets for in my house!! I was gutted, youd be better off getting the 2.5 d and swappin the rods n fuel pump and manifold n turbo for big diesel powered smiles!!!

Nah the 2.6 is awesome in my book, silky smooth, flat torque curve, usually high spec, and pretty quick with 166bhp in 1200kg. Wouldn't really want a diesel in one of these, and doing all that work would cost more than just living with 25mpg...

Love it. If I wasn't doing 100+ miles every day I'd be so tempted by something like this. Saw a beautiful MkIV Cortina the other day...

And as for the two tone paint...
