Is there much difference between the two? Im thinking there is but after looking around other 306 forums some people say there isnt, worth the hassle of upgrading?

Every day driving, no not really. Out for a hoon and you will notice the difference. Braking will be much more consistent unless you REALLY push it!

So basically around town there isnt much difference, but when having to brake harder, for longer and in emergency situations they are quite a bit better?

Like i say, normal driving there is no difference (perhaps a different 'biting point' on the pedal but you will have to work much harder to get the brakes to fade and they do seem to give you much more confidence. Its not just a bigger disc. Its also a much bigger piston so more force being pressed on that disc.

So defo worth upgrading? im thinking of upgrading just so i know ive got a bit extra when braking in emergency situations and quickly for corners etc
I also wont be changing the master cylinder to the GTI6 one so will i feel less of a difference too? or will i still feel a good increase in braking? (06-07-2014, 10:24 PM)kentiiboii Wrote: Do it! Did you notice much difference when you switched? also did you use the GTI6 master cylinder too?

Well for emergency, it won't make much of a difference. Im assuming you can get your ABS to kick in easily if you want now and once the ABS is running, it doesn't matter how good your brakes are because the computer is doing it all for you and keeping you right on the edge of grip.
I would say yes, upgrade!

Ok cheers, yes ABS will take over but its just the stopping distance and slowing down speed before that im on about

Noticed no difference except more pedal travel with GTI brakes on my last one so just stuck with the 266s on this one, then again, 306 brakes never seem overly good to me since owning newer cars.
I think yours will be significantly better with all the pads present and correct.
Cheers Tom!
Your always the one to laugh at my misfortunes haha

I like to laugh with people, not at them....

Had both, on genuine oem pads frankly little difference, the 266s will run out of puff quicker if you're repeatedly doing 70-0 stops, but never had an issue with either... I've also owned 283s on shocking crap pads, which my 266s would outperform every day... If it were me, spend the money on good pads for the 266s and not worry about it... Unless you're well over 200hp, I personally don't see the need for much more than 266s unless you track regularly... Enjoy the reduction in unsprung weight

i have a hdi on 266 and a 6 on 283's
and the 6 has far better brakes on standard pads than the hdi if i had a set of callipers and disc's i would change the 266 to 283's

Thanks lads!
Thats what I wanted to hear, you would expect them to be a lot better i suppose since the 266s were on the HDI 90 and the 283s on the GTI6/Rallye with 167 horses |
