The arbs on metros are an extra, only the gtis and the gta 16vs had them,
laugh is the arbs don't really do that much, as the body still roles, due to the car not having the front dampers. Which is on the cards for been fitted to this shell.

haha, it was too early in the morning for me to have took notice, plus I hadn't had my brew yet by then.

its pissed down with rain today so I cannot start the car again!
see what happens later on if it dries!
Also offered my old shell to a mg metro cup racer, as he had a smash at the last round, so we will have to see what happens there.

well the weather has cheered up, so I was out there with the starter charger, I put some charge into the battery and it struggled to start, then after another second try with the key, it fired up and hunted like it had a stage 3 cam in! But with in a few mins the engine sorted itself out, and I left the car to tick over, charge the battery and let it burp.
i had it running like that for about an hr, i then took it to see my mot tester, he was well impressed to see the Reshell!
also with me sorting out the sensor, the ecu i think has sorted the fueling as its a lot more happier now, and the mot tester said, its not smoking at all now.
I give it a little drive and back, and all seems well. so just a case of sorting out the handbrake, and give the brakes a proper bleed, and sort the exhaust out, And we have a working car again!

today I give it a tick over session, and I think I may have a dodgy earth. so I will have to look at that,
also I placed in my centre console, so that I can sort the hazard switch, I am planning on getting different gauges and fitting the hazard switch there, also I am going to try and fit this one in properly and make a much better job.



gave the car a hoover out and it needs a wipe inside and the interior a clean, as there is a few dark marks on it,
then we got to work with it,

I am over the moon on how this car has come on and the drive I tell you was miles better than the gta! :blink:
a lot more responsive, a lot more quieter, and no rattles!!
my dad took the car for a test drive, and it f*cking frightened him!
he said f*cking hell this is lot more quicker off the mark and the handling is better too!!
so it proper spooked him and it spooked me aswell!
in fact its an all round better car than the 1st series! The 1st one spooked me, but this one really does spook you!!!
so after all the hardwork , I think I have earned a beer!
also I am looking forward to taking my date out! as she has liked the red one, and likes the colour of this one. Also she has been following what's been going on too!

my dad was up the arse of an A4 estate with it yesterday, I think it might have been the same lady garden who sat off the bumper when it was a 1.1.
as that was a red estate.

I bought that last year, when I was at mglive, I have a English flag one too go on. same style of badge,
fords seem to be the metros favourite past time more, but its great bating an Audi,
the gtas 1st road trip, an A4 cut me up, so I sat the car off his boot lid and over took him, the shock on his face was priceless!

looks like this has a touch of French electrics! the car isn't starting, then it will fire into life. only just started to do that. so I am going to order off two new battery terminals and then coil pack and black box, as those can give these faults.
once I can get problem sorted, I can look at the fuel gauge sender system.

procta here managed to sort the French electrics problem. D

turns out its the gearbox earth, so i have fixed it for the time been, but i am going to replace the two leads, as the end of the positive one has snapped, now it maybe that my dad has over tightend it and weakend the thing and not said nowt, as he was trying to sort it. so when i have came to check it, it failed.

so i swopped that over with the spare i had, and the car fired into life!

but guess what has just happened, when i took the car for a test run and to give it some fuel,
the brakes failed on the car! so i pulls over and has a look underneath, and to find my driver side braided hose has failed!!!!!!! :mad:
FFS!!! the car has done f*ck all miles!! so either the front hub has caused the hose to push into the driver side subframe over who knows! as the hose is f*cking well shot!
i did route it like the old one was too, to make sure it was ok.




no way and hell am i forking out another 76 odd quid for another set, that can f*ck off!
as its funny how the OEM hoses didn't fail, but just down the road, this has gone! :mad:
not worth the paper they are written on sadly this braided hose shite, if the fail that easy!

I have ordered off two front oem flexi hoses off, as I am not f*cking about, not this time! no way am I going through the same what I went through with the gta, with this car. New car and new rules!

My braided hoses are 15/16k miles old and give them a wipe and they are like new still.

They should send a replacement and a huge apology!

piggy I am not going to f*ck about with that, just as well the rears are up above the rear subframe, as I would have removed those too!
my dad thinks its been a fault with that side.

well did a few things yesterday, That was put my battery cut off system back on the car, and replace the two battery terminals,

moved the earth here, but I may replace the earth lead with the old one again, just have to see how it fares,
reason it was moved, was the gearbox/engine end, has a smaller hole than the original one. so I have had to mount it here, ( no other place to mount it sadly)



my battery cut off system back on again, I may look at replacing or renewing that.


just waiting on a few bits for the car, the new flexi hoses came today, but I haven't got the rest of the parts yet, as I will replace these while I replace the two hubs.

I will pop down to my local motor factors and buy a replacement jubely clip for the fuel neck, as I want to buy a oil filter for the HDi.
After that its a case of a tighten and check, then a tidy up under the car.
I will see about pricing the old metro bumpers, so that they can get painted and possibly a tidy up too.

right here we go, I have started to buy in some of the bits I was going to change before the new project came on board.
1st one is the black starter relay, I have decided to renew that as I think that's starting to give up.

well since I swopped over the electrics on the red one 6 years ago, from the metro electrics to the later R100 electrics, Some thing really bugged me, and that was the clocks. The Rover metro had a light symbol on the clocks , that lit up when the lights were on, but sadly I lost that when I switched to the R100 electrics, as the R100 had the hazard warning triangle there instead. So when I put the hazards on the light symbol would flash, so this time. With the new car, I have decided to iron out that problem.

here is the Rover metro clocks, with the said symbol.





so after keeping my eye out on the bay of e for a cheep set of clocks,
I managed to buy these.

so I stripped the R100 clocks for the piece I needed, and robbed and binned the rest.



then made a start stripping mine clocks out,



I carefully took mine to bits, and made sure I didn't damage anything.

So another step in ironing out something that I wanted to do with the old metro!
I could have tried to get hold of a set of R114 gsi clocks, but I am not paying daft money for them, for the sake of a symbol! Also no way am I going to buy the piece brand new either! for daft money from rimmer bros!
when I have just bought a basic R110 clock set for £12 quid posted! ( costed about that to post them anyway, and it was 30min job all in anyway.
I want this car to be better than the 1st one was.

I am going for it with this car, as its miles better, in fact its worlds away from the red one! The clock thing, really did bug the hell out of me!

The brake pipe issue, we suspect it to be a faulty hose. As the other side is fine.
I have bought two OEM front flexi hoses, so when i fit the replacement front hubs, i can just swop those over at the same time. As both wheels will be off at the same time.
I am pushing on, still got a few things to do, i have a mod that's going on this car, Another nice little feature, just have to wait on that one, as i have to watch me budget.

I have a reshell on a saxo to do but the replacement shell is rotten round engine bay so thinking of scrapping it and finding a better one instead of welding it up. I got mine on 20th of May and took the engine and box out for conversion, and that's it. Yours is stripped swopped and back on road already!!! Mines just sitting there waiting. Where does the time go....... And yes summer evenings are great for this kinda job!!!!

what you saw here, it took me years to do with the red one, due to parts, bum info and set backs! (which eat into budget and time)
now I don't have anything like that, just a perfected setup with a few upgrades, Also I can correct where I went wrong, and push some more upgrades to this car.
so if you have the bits already and you know your away around the car, your away!
mind fella, I took two weeks off work and was at it every day!
I put some long hours into it mind!
sometimes your better off reshelling rather than welding, it gets to the point where you have to say. I am better off just swopping it over and going from there.
this shell as saved me nearly 1000 quid as the old one needed that sadly to even get it into this sort of condition!
get a thread up on your rebuild as I love things like this, as I really have enjoyed doing this! I loved it with the red one, but not the bum info lol.

done a bit today, mainly starting to bin some of the old metro bits, that are not needed now.
Also I put on my light covers, which are a rare find for metros now! I wanted a set for the old one, i couldn't get hold of any, but managed to find some for this car straight away! so today, i have put those on the car.

i was going to get our gareth on here to spray some bits of trim off the gta, mum offered to spray my bits of interior, as she was doing some for the landy.
so i let her have a go.

here are the bits that i kept from the old metro,


the two parcel shelf supports were kept due to the ones on this car been damaged,
( i did have plans to paint these to match the black parcel shelf)

during the painting process, satin black.








my metal handles to replace the plastic ones, ( these are from a mk1 metro)


now this idea i did like on the HDI, so it was copied over,

also i ran some seam sealer too, in a few areas, As this car has been repaired in the past, but they sorted the out side, but didn't bother sorting out inside, so i seam sealed their repair to the seatbelt mount and round the boot corners, to keep this car solid.
no photos of that, as i had to remove photos from my phone at the time.

while that was sealant was setting, i switched over to the front of the car.

just got the front ones to fit, mind i have to say, having a car that has the proper bolts and seeing how it all goes together, really helps! As the 1st one was stripped at the rear! and i have miss matching bolts sadly. So i managed to do the job better, Using the bolts from this car!
So another step forwards!
the interior mods look well mint!! the side panels that were cream, look much better black, my mum wasn't sure at 1st until she saw and said yeah that's miles better that!
plus it goes the blue too, i do have a red in the fabric so the red seat belts will go nice with that, plus another rare feature to add to the car as well.
also you may have clocked i got shot for the shitty inner arch panels interior

so this car isn't a million miles away from the gta 16v really
anyway, I did a bit more today, while I had a few mins, also to round off the upgrades.
I decided to modify the parcel shelf, so that it has the locking system that the original parcel shelf had, and get what I found on ebay, a blue parcel shelf like the original that was bust! **** it a I am keeping the one I have!

The early mk1 metros had better external handles than the newer ones, As they were metal and not made of plastic!
( if I known at the time, id have fitted the ones to the gta, but **** it that's dead and recycled now)
during the rebuild, I had to rob a door handle from the GTa, as you will have scene further back, After that I managed to get my hands on some metal replacement ones from the early metro.

I swopped over the plastic clip as that is better and locks the wire in place,

nah, the door handles on the later metros are weaker, there wasn't really much difference in weight really, plus there is f*ck all electrics in basic spec metros,
this one doesn't have the radio or speakers wired in.
i think this one its all about the detail, as we have the setup. ( well nearly)

well today, while the weather was good, and after I had a look at the 306, to see what is going on there.
I decided to get on with sorting out the brakes once and for all!
I bought my replacement flexi hoses, to bin the braided hose shite.




took the shitty ones off and went back to OEM






gave the brakes a bleed, and I now have a road working metro again!! DD
going back to the braided hoses,


I think I know why one went, as the one other one was going to do the same!
we came to the conclusion that these are piss poor quality, as the length is questionable compared to the OEM hose.
Anyway I have my little egg beater back up and running, just need to sort the fuel gauge out.

got my top ball joints ordered, so that I can get the front hubs on the car.
I have it on the road again today, and its a proper little cracker
still got to see what is going on with the sender gauge, might need more fuel in.
also going to price up the waterless coolant, so I can have this converted over.

so got some more digging to do there, also fit my front seat belts to the car, as I still have the old ones on, and haven't switched over to the red units yet.
The replacement hubs are at the garage where I take my cars to get moted, as the tester is fitting the top ball joints, I don't have the proper spanners for the job, So he said he will do them. Just to got to pop up sometime this week to pick the parts up.

so one will be used and the rest kept for spares.

my fuel sender unit!!! so looks like I may have to have a look at a replacement unit, for the car.
