So drove my '6 yesterday and noticed my gear stick started to have a lot of movement when it's it 2nd gear while driving.
The gear stick must move about a 1.5" back and forth. Ive had a look underneath thinking somethings was catching but couldn't find anything, my dads also coming down today for a look.
Do you think it could be gear linkages?

Thats a lot of movement. Id be surprised if it was down to the linkages alone. Engine mounts or exhaust hitting?

If you hold the stick and press the throttle on and off and notice movement it should indicate engine mounts worn. It could also be the subframe bolt which connects the linkages.

Is it only when youre accelerating? If so, could be drive shafts

The top and gearbox mount do little for engine movement it's more the lower one unless knowing how badly the 306 suffer's from cradle failure it's normally that, The mounts tend to go on for years and years before they fail up top, just the lower gets all the oil and dirt on it, OE one's turned 90 degree's help without any increase in vibration
