Engine Cradle - Wishbone Support



Were it tapers off at the back.. The very end of the tube is were the back of seats will be. and the swing arm of the end..like this

needs to be 450kg or under
Engine is 180kg tops?
Frame up to now is only 21kg and there is only a little more cradle to go around the engine and seats

Drive shafts / hubs I'v yet to measure. the uprights (hub carrys) will be swapped out for aluminum uprights if needs be. 1/5th weight of the cast iron uprights.

Seats will be folded aluminum sheet, padded of course. Or fiberglass whatever is cost effective at the time.. Max 10-15kg with rails.

Nuts and bolts and various mounts 20kg MAX

Wheels. 10kg each. (Not sure if thats with or without tyres) Back one will be slightly more.

So say 280kg up to now? That leaves 120kg for Drive shafts/tyres? and an extra 50kg for being totally off with my calculations and it end up being a 2 tonne monster.

I wouldn't be so sure.

A bare Gti engine weighs ~125kg. Add a ~40kg box to that, then all the auxiliaries, and in your case a turbo etc you've gotta be looking at the wrong side of ~200kg.

But then arguably you won't have power steering?

Dunno if these figures are any use.. I found my weighbridge slip recently and my MK is 640kg with about half a tank of fuel (10l). My chassis weighs approx 75kg. My gbox is a bit heavier than a 306 and I've got the diff/sierra drive shafts at the back which are quite weighty, and an extra wheel, my cobra seats are heavier than fibreglass ones but they're not too bad. 450kg will be a challenge. Nothing wrong with a challenge though

This is just a list for the test. Batt will be a normal one at first. under the passenger seat or something to counteract a much as i can of me sitting on the right.

Lights will be going on waaaay after the test.. if it works.

That geometery looks like it's going to have terrible bump steer. That's also a fair bit of scrub, you might want to keep the power steering...

Struts as in the springs? ... if i kept them i would have even more trouble trying to mouth the top ends :\

No, as in the whole strut/upright assembly, just keep the stock geometery since you're using standard shafts and rack...

True, I was thinking of getting a sub frame + wishbones from a 306.. and fabbing up an upper control arm, nothing major is welded in place yet, so it can change if needed. (Just waiting on dean so i can take his car to bits )

Its all contradicting!! I'm going for that it weighs on the heavy side, that will make sure i don't go over weight in the end

It could be up to 1000kg - But then only the old type car license could ride it

My motorbike licence only lets me ride a trike thats up to 450kg in weight

450kg unladen so no passengers, but needs half tank of fuel, oil ect.
