Premium diesel over normal

who cares about economy and fuel prices we drive XUD's for the booooooooooooooost

I don't drive XUDs for the boost, it's a nice bonus but I drive it because it's cheap. If I was driving for the boost only, I'd go spend a grand on a T5 or Saab turbo with a 300bhp+ remap...

You're entitled to an opinion....

I'd swap my 306 for a Saab 900 Turbo 16S tomorrow if I wasn't bothered about economy, or at least a '6.

'6 is very win.
Don't think about economy, just think about when it needs fuel, give it fuel ha!

You guys realise it's probably worse for an XUD to put in "premium" diesel...

HDis it'll help a bit, but cetane won't do much, and if anything hamper performance in an XUD, just likely to put more strain on the precups...

Would that be because the fuel will be burning hotter with a high cetane content?

Well, Indirect injection is better at being able to use power throughout the stroke, since there's heat in the precups throughout the combustion stroke - cetane is directly comparable to the ignition delay meaning that the pressure rise from the diesel starting to burn happens quicker (great in a direct injection engine) and means the fuel completes it's burn faster and sooner throughout the stroke - but Indirects take advantage of the fact that they can exert the maximum amount of effort on the piston later into the cycle, where it's most effective.

DIs you can only inject fuel when there's heat there, otherwise you won't have enough heat to keep burning the fuel - soon as the piston starts dropping past TDC, the heat from compression is only ever going away.

Imagine being on a bicycle and only being able to apply force in first about 30* of crank motion past TDC - you'd not get very far. That's like what a DI does, they're getting better these days as more complex CFD can help keep heat in the cylinder for longer.

IDI can provide effort throughout the stroke MUCH better, since you can carry on injecting the fuel much later into the stroke, just when you get to the most effective point...

Can't comment on diesel but I use a mix of normal and nitro + fuel and I find it smoother in general. Mileage is about the same for me though

Nitro? In a petrol? How well does it run. Bet it runs hot. Iv seen petrols run on nirto melt heads, pistons and snap rods. These were lawnmowers though lol

Sorry I should have wrote it out properly, that will teach me for trying to post quickly while at work! I use Vpower Nitro + and normal fuel, not just putting Nitro down the fuel pipe haha
