On m27.
All temps were fine, went to over take and BOOM, clackity clattery followed by a small amount of white smoke, ZERO power, still turns on/tuns over with the same clattery noise.
Answers on a postcard.

Belts can go at any time.. honestly thats what it sounds like.. I wouldn't keep starting it just incase.. check timing first.
I had a belt slip twice on my pug in 2 weeks (dodgy aux belt tensioner) belt off.. timed up, belt on and it ran fine lol

Interesting. Sounded a hell of a lot worse
But seeing as it did still run for a bit, I switched off as soon as possible; it did start again, don't sound bad until I blipped the fuel. Then shut it off again.
I'll check the belt when I get off the motorway

99% sure it's a slipped belt. To be fair, it happened to me on my sigma DT, sounded awful, really thought I'd smashed some valves. Timed it up and besides a little top-end rattle it was fine...

On tow; we had a look at belt, he doesn't agree as it's pretty tight still.

It will still be tight between all sets of pulleys apart from one.. so could be at the water pump its loose etc. If that makes sense

Does it motor full full compression or sound more smooth than normal? Is aux belt still on?
Belt dosnt normally slip unless the aux belt fails or something drops in there, aer covers on? has nut on tensioner fallen off?
Either way, if its slipped it will still be tight it just slips around the crank a couple teeth if a foriegn object gets in there.
Sure its not just a more minor issue? get avideo tbh.

It idles rough, spluttery, but it idles itself. Then when throttle is added you get the bashing of nails.
The only cover which is NOT on is the pump cover. And the aux belt is 205 aux setup (just alternator) thin belt, will double check to see its still there; pretty sure it is; no battery light come on when it was still running as I made my way across the motorway
I'll have a thorough look tomorrow when it's dry and I have time. I'll video if/when I redo the belt and check over nuts and bolts
