Ive been doing my best to lose weight for about 2 month now the first month i was at the gym didn't really change my eating and i wasn't seeing any difference, i booked a personal trainer after speaking to her i changed my diet alot cut down massively, and eat more frequently as it speeds you metabolism up, and that helps to burn fat. So far in the 1 month ive changed my diet ive dropped just over 1 stone and got a fair amount of muscle gain to since the pt sessions. Not really seen any differences in weight loss looking at my self apart from on scales but can tell with the muscle build up.
So i say change your eating eat smaller potions more times a day, (eat good stuff tho) dont eat 10 chocolate bars though out the day
Thats my opinion any way. Im loving the gym at the min it is quite addictive carnt wait to get the weight off and have some muscle

Good man Chris! Its great when you get the results then you get the bug then you are unstoppable. The same concept applies, the amount of research we all put into car stuff to know what to do, all the info you will ever need about training and diet is out there too you just gotta look on the right places to avoid the bs.
If you got any questions send me a pm

Thanks i agree with the research thing but what i found that is every one seems to have a different view its like ask 10 different people get 10 different answers. As it is im happy with how im doing as im extremely fussy with food only like certain thing, hate it when people force me in to trying things makes me rebel even more, but ive been trying things at my own pace and starting to like new things like pasta rice ( i now no these taste of nothing ) but its all small steps on the way to having a fitter and better me hopefully i can pull it off. Time will tell
I dont think it is easy tho at all when i stopped smoking about 1/2 years ago was a walk in the park compered to this weight loss

I don't see why people try and loose weight if they also want to body build. Muscle is heavier than fat so it's not an issue if you put weight on instead of loosing it! This is why I think the bmi scale is crap. According to bmi I'm obease. I'm sure most that have met me know I'm not lol.

I've been told by my doctor to get a gym membership...no, not because I'm fat But because I've injured myself at football again due to a preexisting back problem, so looks like I need to start going to the gym to strengthen my core muscles and use that to keep fit instead of running or football. I guess the amount I pay for football a month is pretty damn close to what I'd pay for a gym membership so it's not all bad.

I agree with niall, basically if you are wanting to loose weight you have to consume less calories than you burn, so there is no excess available to build anything! but I would definately recommend weight training even if you aren't bodybuilding
Scott you should do some basic core excerises, a good stretching routine and maybe some core lifts like squat and deadlift would massively benefit you. When training for a sport its all bout quality, you don't necessarily need to lift heavy, just do it right to actually strengthen the right areas. You see sooo many noobs come in the gym and try to lift more than me but aren't doing it right as clearly my muscle is more developed and hey I'm lifting 20kg lighter.

Also remember the more muscle you have the quicker you will burn those calories off when exercising!

Totally agree even when 'losing weight' make sure your not just doing cardio etc weights for all body parts are so important otherwise because your burning more calories that your consuming you can start attacking the placid muscles but if you hit the muscle it prevents this and therefore overall gain muscle definition comes from under burnt fats

My core isn't terrible...I mean I'm not exactly unfit, it just clearly needs work. I'll be making sure to start out fairly light anyway as I wouldn't want to do more damage than good.

Right guys. My first post here... so forgive me if anything has been covered already.
Alot of you no im in the military. we have a fitness test once every 6 months.
Which, is the only time i step foot in the gym at work...
Now ive started a couple of weeks ago and im starting, with an experienced gym monkey the abercrombie model workout.
I need some ideas of what sort of stuff i should be eating before and after the gym.
Before is more tricky as i have to eat in the mess, and working shifts means i go to the gym different times of the day...
whenever i finish a workout, i get back to my room and im starving hungry (a la tonight, hence this post)
Whats good to eat? thinking a pack of chicken and maybe an egg or too.
The only cooking facilities i have is a microwave, a toasted sandwhich maker & a kettle.
I really struggle to put wieght on. In afghan i was on 2 protein shakes a day, and i was eating like a horse at mealtimes. Maybe the fact i only did about a week n a half in the gym had something to do with it too, but ive always struggled putting wieght on.
This time i really want to put some mass on. Is it worth doing shakes or just eat inbtween my meals?
Sorry its a lot of questions. But its deffiantly time to see some gains!

Sean if you struggle to put weight on dont worry about what you eat and at what time.
Id suggest upping carbs plenty of potatoes, bread & pasta etc you have a fast metabolism by the sounds of it.
I carb up immediately after the gym and then have a lean meal. When I get changed when finished in the gym il have 5 caramel snackerjacks for my instant carbs or pop tarts. Id suggest a carb drink for training carb up immediately after gym and just load up on your carbs and see how u go
I used to have egg cheese n bean toasties a while back good source of healthy fats (cheese and egg), protein (egg n beans) and carbs (cheese, beans, bread) was one of my favs lol
As for deadlifts iv a video of my latest pb on instagram cj_derv

Sean, you're exactly the same as me, and the same build wise, i.e. lanky.
I struggle like hell to gain any weight, admittedly I struggle because I'm not home for more than a few days at a time to really hit the gym regularly, but hoping that'll change in the new year :/

Most "lanky" / "skinny" people would vomit eating 4000 kcal a day let alone 6500.
Sean I'd probably invest £50 in a large 4/5KG tub of weight gainer / protein shake and take two a day with any type of milk and see if that helps.
Also look at "Starting Strength" by Mark Ripptoe if you want to gain size and strength rather then just look big.
I personally think training for strength is the best way to train, you might not look as ripped as you could if you did a different routine but you'll be genuinely stronger/healthier and physically fitter. The 6 pack will follow within a year or so (I hope)! Haven't quite got there myself yet haha!

Exactly, i got it when i was 13 or 14. Could lift a bit then and most of the sets were the shitty plastic ones and not very heavy. These are only body sculpture but cast iron, been battered about but do the job. Just need some more 5kg and 20kg plates.
