So the gti fuel gauge doesn't seem to be working its constantly stuck on quarter of a tank if I put petrol in it stays the same it never goes down or up thinking it could be the sender but not to sure.

Last time I had this problem the gauge was the problem, does your orange indicator light still come on when low? IF so the gauge is at fault.

The indicator doesn't light up the gauge reads as if it has a quarter of a tank still its a bit weird.

Sounds to me like the float arm on the sender could be jammed. Take it out and see. It should drop under it's own weight but there should be resistance to it like it's damped.

A quick check you can do to see if its the sender or gauge is to unplug the pump/sender (with the keys out the ignition), if the gauge goes down and the low fuel light comes on when you turn the ignition on then it'll be your sender at fault.
