Check straps
#1
My check straps make a clunking noise due to the pin being loose. I don't really want to buy the whole check strap unit because they are £30 quid each, but I could just get the brackets and pins, which would stop the pin moving in the bracket. Am I right in thinking this would stop the clunking, or does the actual strap also need to be a good fit on the pin?

Thanks

Normally a bolt will do it. Clean the f*ck out of the joins etc, grease them
Up and that should help

A bolt instead of a pin? Surely that would be a looser fit?

Pin should sort get a bigger one, check the 2 nuts are tight that hold the strap to the door, they'll make a racket when there loose aswell.

The pins are circa £0.80 from pug IIRC. THere are two different size dependant on phase, but for that price who cares lol.

If you do end up being a tight arse and using a bolt, make sure you fit washers and a nyloc nut and don't tighten it fully. It will work lose otherwise Smile

I think its worn behond the point that a new pin would work, its been like it for 2.5 years! Will definatley need a new bracket with the pin, just hopefully not check strap

You could drill out the bracket and strap a bit bigger and put in a biggervsize pin to match.

Where? There £30 from dealers.

You could get one from the breakers yard but get the N/S one as that should have less wear on it.

£25 from pug and that doesnt include the bracket or pin, have to buy them seperately I'd guess they'd be around a tenner

9181E5 is the whole thing. That's the number I used when I got one and it was a complete unit.
