I wouldnt worry too much about the splitter. Worry more about where you are going to put the plate. unfortunately this isnt america, we have to have front plates and near the windscreen isnt legal im afraid.

ian. thanks for the comment. 50/50 on this. ive read no end on IS IT LEAGAL, still dont know. ive been on dvla and i carnt remember reading anything about its got to be on the out side of the windowscreen but thats not to say its not the law. ive read that its got to be the most forward point of the car, be at a certain angle which rules out in your windowscreen, ive read that many people have been pulled by the rozzers and not even mentioned it though others have had fined. other peeps have said that motorbikes dont have em so wheres the differance their? I JUST DONT KNOW BUT READ THIS.....

In regard to splitters IMO:-
-ph1 doesnt suit a splitter as its got a black bit at the bottom of the bumper already and just looks daft,
-ph2 looks good with the laguna splitter as it follows the bumper shape nicely and the gti splitter isn't designed for ph2
-ph3 suits the gti splitter as it was designed for that bumper, laguna ones can look ok but the GTI is better

Also I have a bumper on my bench waiting for warm weather so i can paint it, it has no plate recess any more but I have a plan for the plate location

Kingy - Sorry to tell you but your pressed plates are also illegal.

"Lettering should be black on a white plate at the front and a yellow at the rear.
The background surface should be reflex-reflecting but the characters must not.
There are separate requirements for traditional number plates displayed on vehicles constructed before 1 January 1973.
Lettering and spacing must be of a set size. They must conform to one of the groups shown at:- Number plates fitted after 1 September 2001 or Number plates fitted before 1 September 2001."

As for the location, just done a little reading up. It doesnt have to be front most part or anything like that, so it can technically be in your windscreen. the issue with that is this however: The numberplate has to be easily seen from all front angle and by cameras etc. A windscreen is raked and also reflective so will impede any view of the plate.

You may not get a ticket for it but would give cause for plod to pull you over often and to look at the rest of your vehicle closely. an inconvience in the least.

Also you will not pass mot without a "fixed" front plate

for the boot popper you need nothing but a bike spoke, there is already a popper in there that is used by the central locking which you can rewire to the rear wiper switch and then bend the bike spoke to fit between the central locking solenoid and the lock catch

^^ shit. mot due. pressed plates are from last years fcs and said fully legal and have the E mark. my mate has em on his golf and has passed mot. will mount old plates with cable ties for mot. sure it not gonna pass anyway. big debate about this over alot of forums. nothing is still 100% in my eyes. thanks for the info matey.

Not wishing to go too far off topic. The Dubmeister ones say they are legal because they have the maker stamp at the bottom which is a requirement in law.

As far as im aware, plates still have to be the acrylic type. From direct.gov website...


Replacing your number plate

Part of the reason it doesn't seem 100% is because when people post saying what the law actually is on a certain subject, people will then reply saying "my car passed an MOT like that therefore it must be legal" or "a copper pulled me over and didn't say anything so don't worry about it", but neither of those things actually indicate that a modification or lack of plate (or whatever) is actually legal.

How so? I didnt think pressed plates were reflective hence being originally "only for show use"

If youve been assured they are fine and its passed mot's then cool. I happen to prefer pressed plates, just never bothered as i assumed they were still only for show.
