Advice on buying a car in Turkey
#1
Me and my brother both lived in Turkey but I decided to return to the UK to finish education, he continued and works in Istanbul.

Cars over there don't depreciate very much at all and he's looking to buy a first car out there now he's finally got some money saved up.

Here's some options that give you an idea of prices:

E21 BMW 1982 - 4200TL / £1525

205 1.9 GTI 1992 - 7500TL / £2725

My personal favourite:

Mk1 Golf TDI 1978 1.6 TD (running a bosch) - 4000TL / £1450

Merc 230 1984 - 6500TL / £2360

So generally speaking cars are expensive out there, any £500 car over here is worth £2000+ basically!

What do people think? He'll only be using the car on weekends etc, he won't be commuting in it.

Also weather is 35*c in Summer and can go as low -5*c as it snows a lot. Bearing this in mind the car needs to be able to cope with the heat, ideal for an IDI mark 1 golf right? Tongue

You can't keep the car in the country for more than 6 (or was it 12) months and the deposit for having it in the country is stupid money (were talking thousands)!

you can export a car to whatever country you like Trent.

If there is import tax itll be a % of the value probably so if you buy it then sell it to your brother do him a recipt for a quid and hell be laughing.

It's great that countries like that actually bother to fix cars instead of scrapping everything for stupid things, I know it's probably down to the value of old cars there but it doesn't half annoy me when people scrap cars for stupid things like 'the wing mirrors broke' or 'the battery needed replacing'
