Mate of mine just bought one

2.0 sdi engine

Can it be run on veg

Any experience plz

But anyone buying an SDi is clearly only interested in fuel costs so anything that makes it even cheaper will be a bonus for them. lol

Besides, they could've had a TDi and got the same mpg....with added boost and less noise, SDis sound bloody awful!


And you're right Darren, well I know its a VP pump, didn't know which one though. My tutor had a Fabia with the same engine that he used to run on veg, had quite a good discussion about it last year when I was telling him about your car in particular lol.

Next door neighbour bought polo sdi 1.9 and i think it had a lucas pump when i looked . correct me if im wrong though

Pretty sure there arent any lucas pumps on SDi's Steve. How were you identifying it? Don't forget there wont be an LDA pin or 'UFO' like on 306 Bosch's as theres no turbo on the SDi.....

Looked at the pump when he was buying it, and i remember thinking "oh it's got lucas written on it so it cant run veg, but the bio diesel should be fine"

Nope, thats a Pumpe Duse (PD) engine, newer tech, delicate fuel system etc. Wont last 5 minutes on veg...

SDis are direct injection though, are they not? In which case there would be ring gumming issues if running single tank veg. I'd run it. But with water injection.

Yeah they are, I believe SDi stands for 'suction direct injection'. Dunno about ring gumming though, not sure I want to know what that is. Confused lol

I agree, direct injection engines should be twin tanked or invariably the rings will gum at some point. I have read of people using water injection to successfully de-gum piston rings, personally I would go twin tank. All that said it really is easier just to buy a more veg friendly vehicle from the outset. Saxo/106 1.5D with Bosch pump is the ultimate cheap motoring as far as I can see, it works out marginally more expensive than walking.

If it's a 2.0 SDi - as far as I'm aware it's NOT rotary pumped, it's also PD stylee...

DO NOT run veg in a 2.0 SDI... 1.9 Would be fine as it is a VP37...

And yeah - I've said this before but I think someone told be it'd be fine, you shouldn't run veg in a DI engine unless it's twin tanked, you do just gum the shit out of everything when it's cold...
