Golf SDI mk5 Veg????? - Tyronnster - 05-01-2013 Mate of mine just bought one 2.0 sdi engine Can it be run on veg Any experience plz RE: Golf SDI mk5 Veg????? - Toms306 - 05-01-2013 Slow as f*ck....but I think sdis can be run on veg. RE: Golf SDI mk5 Veg????? - 306carter - 05-01-2013 They do about 65mpg anyway. RE: Golf SDI mk5 Veg????? - darrenjlobb - 05-01-2013 vp37 on them isnt there? If so yes no problem :p RE: Golf SDI mk5 Veg????? - Toms306 - 05-01-2013 (05-01-2013, 08:38 AM)306carter Wrote: They do about 65mpg anyway. But anyone buying an SDi is clearly only interested in fuel costs so anything that makes it even cheaper will be a bonus for them. Besides, they could've had a TDi and got the same mpg....with added boost and less noise, SDis sound bloody awful! And you're right Darren, well I know its a VP pump, didn't know which one though. My tutor had a Fabia with the same engine that he used to run on veg, had quite a good discussion about it last year when I was telling him about your car in particular lol. RE: Golf SDI mk5 Veg????? - lolsteve - 05-01-2013 Next door neighbour bought polo sdi 1.9 and i think it had a lucas pump when i looked . correct me if im wrong though RE: Golf SDI mk5 Veg????? - Toms306 - 05-01-2013 Pretty sure there arent any lucas pumps on SDi's Steve. How were you identifying it? Don't forget there wont be an LDA pin or 'UFO' like on 306 Bosch's as theres no turbo on the SDi..... RE: Golf SDI mk5 Veg????? - lolsteve - 05-01-2013 Looked at the pump when he was buying it, and i remember thinking "oh it's got lucas written on it so it cant run veg, but the bio diesel should be fine" Re: Golf SDI mk5 Veg????? - Tyronnster - 05-01-2013 its a bosch thats on it RE: Golf SDI mk5 Veg????? - sweeney1987 - 05-01-2013 check it here: http://biomotors.co.uk/CarsVans.html RE: Golf SDI mk5 Veg????? - bigcheez2k3 - 05-01-2013 ^^They sell a kit for £558 for an XUD... RE: Golf SDI mk5 Veg????? - sweeney1987 - 05-01-2013 yeah i know its mad, good indication on whether you can use it in one tank or need twin tank it though RE: Golf SDI mk5 Veg????? - kingy - 06-01-2013 what about mk4 tdi ?????150. Re: RE: Golf SDI mk5 Veg????? - Dan! - 06-01-2013 (06-01-2013, 08:06 AM)kingy Wrote: what about mk4 tdi ?????150. Nope, thats a Pumpe Duse (PD) engine, newer tech, delicate fuel system etc. Wont last 5 minutes on veg... RE: Golf SDI mk5 Veg????? - Piggy - 06-01-2013 Be lucky if it lasted 5 minutes!!! RE: Golf SDI mk5 Veg????? - Toms306 - 06-01-2013 They're efficient enough anyway kingy! . But yeah don't try veg in it lol....that would end up very expensive.... RE: Golf SDI mk5 Veg????? - kingy - 06-01-2013 cheers. just a though that was all. it would be efficient if everywhere i went wasnt on boost. On a 150 turbo if you can keep it on boost you're doing well, bloody laggy old things! RE: Golf SDI mk5 Veg????? - DaveW - 06-01-2013 Sdi golf sounds right up tom's street! RE: Golf SDI mk5 Veg????? - n0v0s - 06-01-2013 SDis are direct injection though, are they not? In which case there would be ring gumming issues if running single tank veg. I'd run it. But with water injection. RE: Golf SDI mk5 Veg????? - Toms306 - 06-01-2013 (06-01-2013, 11:13 AM)DaveW Wrote: Sdi golf sounds right up tom's street! Slow, noisy and only as economical as a TDi with triple the power? Erm...hell no! (06-01-2013, 12:18 PM)n0v0s Wrote: SDis are direct injection though, are they not? Dunno about ring gumming though, not sure I want to know what that is. I agree, direct injection engines should be twin tanked or invariably the rings will gum at some point. I have read of people using water injection to successfully de-gum piston rings, personally I would go twin tank. All that said it really is easier just to buy a more veg friendly vehicle from the outset. Saxo/106 1.5D with Bosch pump is the ultimate cheap motoring as far as I can see, it works out marginally more expensive than walking. RE: Golf SDI mk5 Veg????? - Ruan - 06-01-2013 Eeek! If it's a 2.0 SDi - as far as I'm aware it's NOT rotary pumped, it's also PD stylee... DO NOT run veg in a 2.0 SDI... 1.9 Would be fine as it is a VP37... And yeah - I've said this before but I think someone told be it'd be fine, you shouldn't run veg in a DI engine unless it's twin tanked, you do just gum the shit out of everything when it's cold... RE: Golf SDI mk5 Veg????? - darrenjlobb - 08-01-2013 meh transits love motor oil from cold, and im sure a bit of veg wont do much harm! |
