Engine is now back out to sort out engine bay (clutch m/c and paint). Hopefully the last time it'll be out (until I make an offering to the gods of speed in the form of a 'hole in teh blockz0r') Oil return line now chopped and welded to clear steering column. Brakes are all bled and working nicely.
Alternator bracket started (alternator is a tiny thing from a Daihatsu Move) High tech alignment All done (not pictured is the tension adjuster) Hopefully a scrapyard visit this week to finally get a flywheel

Ben thats awesome, great engineering solutions to problems hehe! Shes snowballing now, I see you've got the VE mounted up on there aswell, sorry not been about much the car has taken a backseat this week

The LDV gearbox is push type, like the hdi. The spline pattern on the LDV box is different from hdi, ford galaxy gives the right number of splines and the right diameter friction disk, as well as the hub profile.

Since last update our Polo failed MOT so I've been spending a lot of spare time fixing that POS.
Clutch all bolted together and fitted, then gearbox back on Then engine and box back in. Then fanny about with the slave cylinder and make the clutch release arm fall off. Then engine and box out to fit release arm properly, then engine and box back in: Engine mount now fitted so I have the cam adjuster. Towing eye from the worst car I have ever owned now welded in for engine lifting eye. Stuff I didn't take photos of: new clutch hose. I went to a local hydraulics place with my master and slave cylinders and got a hose made in a few minutes for pennies. That's rigged up now so I have a working clutch. Also got a gates cambelt kit and fit that. I got some fresh oil and filled her up and got a can of diesel, Dave came round and Sam was at the workshop so thought why not try and fire her up? After fiddling with fuel lines and making an attractive 'diesel feature' in the passenger footwell we tried to fire. Cranked over a few times to get air out of the lines before nipping up injectors. Then it was noticed that I'd forgotten to put the fuel return back into the can so that was making a nice puddle a few feet away. Dave and Sam rigging up my battery to dave's car Only took 2 naff pictures! She turned over and wasn't starting, barely any smoke. Fuel lines were bled again and now there was smoke, but no start. Dave tested glow plugs and 2 were dead. There might be a prob with the pump (not sure what exactly, new to me!) and then we ran out of time for the day. Went home stinking of diesel fumes but happy, hadn't started but was great seeing it almost come to life!

Lol epic stuff Ben, nice update need to mount a cam or something rather than pissing about holding phones all the time lol - hopefully you can get the prop sorted for tuesday Will have that VE sorted quite easily I think, (if not a visit to the scrappers is in order!!!) and will bring a couple of fag lighters with me tues to replace the 2 broken ones and she shall be running!

First pump was full of rust (and still ran I might add!!), and the second was still in bits, and both had seized govnor weights/shafts but we sorted it eventually.

That little exhaust bit was just a 90 degree bend pushed in for a laugh, although it actually helped clear the fumes
Today I connected my old throttle, I thought i'd have to do some major fannying about but all it took was a solderless nipple and it worked straight away! We had a test run, bodged together a temp cooling system. It sometimes ran well, sometimes rough. Turns out there's air getting in around the filter (missing a hose clamp) and also the jerry can was sliding about so the fuel line was barely in the can at times (like sucking the last bits of drink from a carton) There's no gearstick so changing gears is very hard! Really need to sort that out, a mole grip simply doesn't work :p Clutch needs more of a bleed, as do the brakes. So good to be moving under it's own power again! Filmed a quick vid, it was getting quite dark towards the end though. I've got this weekend free so I'm going to try and get an inlet plenum rigged up.

thanks ^_^ had a very quick drive in it today with a metal bar clamped on to the gearstick base, now I have 1st and 2nd gear (no other gears yet though!) Pulled nicely, sounded great, scared a small child, classic.

Thanks Tom! I didn't expect it to go together so fast either, Ruan Now that it's up and running I'll move it back home to the garage soon so that I can do the rest in the evenings and get it ready for MOT test. Fuel pipes, tidy up hoses, wiring, body panels, dashboard etc.
Today I started to make an inlet plenum flange but didn't have enough steel to finish so I rigged up the manifold from a 306 and made a hose adapter and went for a quick spin. Going sideways looks really tame in the vid but it felt awesome There were horsey people in the stables round the corner so I couldn't do a full donut, maybe tomorrow though (first drive with the LSD fitted, got to be done)

I cut up an old alternator belt to the right length, measured it and went to the local autofactors and they had one on the shelf that was the right length, think it's a Gates one. It's a 4 tooth belt, alternator is from a Daihatsu Move.
