Thinking about upgrading my engine to a gti6. Is it a straight drop in or is there anything I need to think about?
Also will the xsi box bolt on?
Thanks boys and girls!!

lump will just drop in. you will need a gti steering rack though. and youd be better off with a gti or xsara vts box on it

Yep, lad who bought my old GTi6 engine kept the 8v XSi box and it was very long geared, he insisted it was quicker than the 6 speed though

Tbh if your gunna donut may aswell buy a '6 as a donor,
You will need
Engine
Steering rack
Gearbox
Gear lever
Brakes
Suspension
Rear beam.
That's to do it properly.

Engine loom plugs into car easy, don't NEED clocks, you just go past the redline, everything else fits no issue...

Matt,
I take it that's a full conversion your on about there?? Is there much to be gained by fitting the rear beam?
It's going into a phase 2. Not about looks as is a road rally car!!
It's on coilovers and 6 brakes already so not worried about that.
If I keep the original box will I still need to change the rack??
Cheers

Alot of the 205 boys use 1.6 GTi box's on '6 engines and insist they have much better acceleration due to the short gearing enabling it to stay in it's power band. Food for thought.

For track use i expect it's awesome, wouldn't imagine it'd be very good on the MW though lol

Dead easy. Sell XSi, buy GTi.
Probably makes more economical sense anyway..

The 1.6 box is good but the top speed suffers massively iirc. Acceleration below and up to 60 is I've heard improved somewhat..

Top end speed is pointless on a road car anyway, it's stupid doing those speeds and illegal. Accelerations where it's at.
