Xsi to gti6 - how easy is it?? - Farmer306 - 22-11-2012 Thinking about upgrading my engine to a gti6. Is it a straight drop in or is there anything I need to think about? Also will the xsi box bolt on? Thanks boys and girls!! ![]() RE: Xsi to gti6 - how easy is it?? - puglove - 23-11-2012 lump will just drop in. you will need a gti steering rack though. and youd be better off with a gti or xsara vts box on it Xsi to gti6 - how easy is it?? - Pete - 23-11-2012 Yep, lad who bought my old GTi6 engine kept the 8v XSi box and it was very long geared, he insisted it was quicker than the 6 speed though ![]() Sent from my rubbish BlackBerry 9800 using Tapatalk RE: Xsi to gti6 - how easy is it?? - Matt - 23-11-2012 Tbh if your gunna donut may aswell buy a '6 as a donor, You will need Engine Steering rack Gearbox Gear lever Brakes Suspension Rear beam. That's to do it properly. RE: Xsi to gti6 - how easy is it?? - puglove - 23-11-2012 depends what phase xsi your putting it in matt. ph3 xsi is gti spec beam and shocks. on a trolling note. matt i might be gettin another 6 tomorrow. want to buy an engine ![]() RE: Xsi to gti6 - how easy is it?? - Matt - 23-11-2012 Hmmm my phase 3 xsi didn't ![]() Nah I'm good thanks mate ![]() RE: Xsi to gti6 - how easy is it?? - Ed Doe - 23-11-2012 ^^Youll also obviously need the ecu etc... and probably the loom... and the clocks...? RE: Xsi to gti6 - how easy is it?? - Matt - 23-11-2012 Yeah forgot that, would need ecu clocks engine loom and the chip in the key RE: Xsi to gti6 - how easy is it?? - Ruan - 23-11-2012 Engine loom plugs into car easy, don't NEED clocks, you just go past the redline, everything else fits no issue... RE: Xsi to gti6 - how easy is it?? - Farmer306 - 23-11-2012 Matt, I take it that's a full conversion your on about there?? Is there much to be gained by fitting the rear beam? It's going into a phase 2. Not about looks as is a road rally car!! It's on coilovers and 6 brakes already so not worried about that. If I keep the original box will I still need to change the rack?? Cheers RE: Xsi to gti6 - how easy is it?? - Midnightclub - 24-11-2012 Bigger tb's and arb on the gti beam i believe but the handbrake probably won't be much use.. RE: Xsi to gti6 - how easy is it?? - strictly_perv - 24-11-2012 Alot of the 205 boys use 1.6 GTi box's on '6 engines and insist they have much better acceleration due to the short gearing enabling it to stay in it's power band. Food for thought. RE: Xsi to gti6 - how easy is it?? - Midnightclub - 24-11-2012 For track use i expect it's awesome, wouldn't imagine it'd be very good on the MW though lol RE: Xsi to gti6 - how easy is it?? - cwspellowe - 24-11-2012 Dead easy. Sell XSi, buy GTi. Probably makes more economical sense anyway.. RE: Xsi to gti6 - how easy is it?? - Ed Doe - 24-11-2012 The 1.6 box is good but the top speed suffers massively iirc. Acceleration below and up to 60 is I've heard improved somewhat.. RE: Xsi to gti6 - how easy is it?? - strictly_perv - 24-11-2012 Top end speed is pointless on a road car anyway, it's stupid doing those speeds and illegal. Accelerations where it's at. RE: Xsi to gti6 - how easy is it?? - Farmer306 - 25-11-2012 So the best bet is a 1600 205 BE box then? RE: Xsi to gti6 - how easy is it?? - tsotd - 26-11-2012 nope, mi16 box. short 1st/2nd long 5th so said the 205 boys. im running a xsi box on my 6 engine just because i had one spare RE: Xsi to gti6 - how easy is it?? - eddy_gti6 - 27-11-2012 Best off just buying a gti6 to be honest by the time you ha e bought all the bits ect... you could have just bought a 6. Look on ebay there selling very cheap. I bought my astor grey 6 for £500. Bargain if you ask me RE: Xsi to gti6 - how easy is it?? - tsotd - 27-11-2012 have to agree with the above, but if your after back doors then your have to go for a gti6 converstion |
