Basically I'm looking at a tablet sized thing.
I want to be able to go on interwebz view forums/eBay/google/porn
Mainly the reason I want one is for books.
Want to be able to store pics/videos
I have a laptop for work stuff but the tablet is for fast browsing.
It must be able to be able to read books while not connected to Internet.
Must be able to connect to wifi.
Needs at least 10hr battery for long journeys/being at work
Originally I'm looking at the kindle fire hd or nexus 7.
Anyone have experience with either? Or suggest some better while still in the same price range?

But why? Everyone seems to love them, from
The reviews I've read the kindle fire hd is on par.
Plus has a bigger memory.
Plus can you read books on the nexus? That's the main reason I want it
And definatley not iPad they are £ra*e.99p for what they do.

Clearly Dec, one of the big things I've heard about the Nexus 7 is the spellcheck on the keyboard.....
And Ipad...... GET OUT. Just go. now. never return.
The nexus 7 will definitely do books. My Htc one X can do books ffs!! Google Play Books lets you download books to read later.

See fb for my offer
I'm swaying towards nexus 7 reading reviews on the kindle fire hd, it seems on par with the nexus 7 and £50 cheaper.
What memory does the 7 have? For the same price as a 7 I can get the fire hd with 32gb memory

We have got the daughter a nexus 7 for Xmas, ticks all the boxes
Was easier to navigate around than the kindle, they are supposedly releasing a 7 with more memory shortly for not much more dollar.
We shall be downloading a few books and music videos to it before she gets it at christmsas

If you want good battery life then the new Dell XPS 10 tablet will be out start of December... Runs windows 8 RT 10 hours battery life and can purchase an optional keyboard dock that adds 2 usb ports, a hdmi port and adds another 10 hours battery time. Price is 399 for 32gb but im sure there will be some discount codes available at the time.
If you want cheaper then the new nexus 7 32gb will be £199 which runs android
I currently have the Sony Xperia Tablet S but will soon be getting a windows tablet for the pure fact it has full microsoft office and I love the layout!

What's all the hating with win 8, have you used it on a touchscreen interface it's real good?
I would use RT for my tablet needs and win 7 for a desktop/laptop as I don't thick it's very good with mouse+keyboard
As I said in my other post it's the only OS which has Microsoft office and I need this for work purposes. Also works well with my Xbox, another device I can use my zune/xbox music pass for.
OS's are personal preferences at the end of the day

yeah ive used it on a tablet....admittedly only in a shop
Microsoft have been going down hill for years but i think windows 8 will really ruin them over the next year.
IMO of course

I've been considering the Nexus 7. The other one I want muchly is the Asus Transformer Prime with keyboard dock... But that's probably a bit much for your needs

dec is selling his nexus 7 iirc. Im still running a Samsung NC10 which is a netbook i got 5 years ago! Its still running perfectly fine and ive upgraded to windows 7, Solid state hard drive and the biggest battery and i can easily get 8 hours constant use out of it! Should be able to pick them up for £130ish on ebay!
I also use a hp touchpad (good luck finding one) which was reduced from £500 to £120. I got it for £200 off ebay and then installed Android 4 on it and its a really high spec tablet for a cheap price!

The Nexus 7 has been dropped in price recently, the top model is under £200 the 16GB model is £159!!
The kindle fire HD and ipad mini are both slower than the nexus, which is a real powerhouse in comparison.
